|
|
For the past week I've been in Scotland and noticed that traffic providers were not selectable on the device and that all it showed was that it would continue to locate a provider.
When I reached Dumfries or Stranraer the traffic came on, but around many other areas and the rest of the A75 no traffic was received on the device - I couldn't select the standard Inrix or Inrix Dab services (it just kept going back to auto - searching)
I also noticed in the lake district again it wasn't able to lock on to a signal in Hawkshead or Windermere and it wasn't until I got back to the M6 I was able to receive traffic again.
I know for the past few weeks the traffic icon never shows it is using DAB unless I go into the settings for traffic and back out again (doesn't always update), but have had traffic updates around yorkshire without problems.
If I switch to using Smartlink, it shows I'm connected and that the traffic is being provided by the app.
Do you think this is just a problem in these areas or that the unit may just need a master reset to sort itself out, or the worse case scenario is that a fault is appearing on the device/charger unit (device knows the device correct charger is attached)
Just a bit odd, especially as has been working fine since I got it |

My guess is that you were in dead spots for the traffic cable. Especially as it kicked back into life when you re entered civilisation.
I don't suppose you would have many traffic issues in those rural areas anyway. _________________ DashCam:

I find traffic on my system very flaky throughout the country.

Never seen an icon on my screen.

Me neither. Is that an icon related to smartlink? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

click on the spanner
the traffic icon changes
DAB - means using DAB
Smartlink - means using the smartlink app on your mobile
Standard - means normal traffic
If I switched to smartlink i got the traffic which was correct as there was a smash on the a75 |

Nope, not on the DriveSmart when just using the cable you don't. No change of icon.
Edit: Had an idle moment this afternoon so installed the SmartPhone link and connected it to my device, still can't see any change in icon?? Do see a smartphone icon though
Edit edit!! Got it, stupid me was looking for a change in the icon, the icon is similar but the wording within it changes, must visit specsavers _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I never knew that!! Shame there is no way to have it on the main navigation screen without having the menu open _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 51 LMT-D Europe |

My older 1490 shows the icon on the map screen. Shame the later ones don't. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I agree. Just having the occasional faint spinning circle when it's searching can be missed.
A proper permanent icon in the traffic area to indicate success or failure would be far better. _________________ DashCam:

I thought I would run for a few days with the intrusive traffic banner showing on the right side of the scree. On the A1, from Elkesley to Doncaster, no signal. From Hull to Scampton along the A15, no signal. These are quite big swathes of road netowrk that are being missed, even though I have DAB reception in the car. Why it doesn't fall back to TMC is a little annoying.
Travelling a 10 mile stretch from Peterborough to Thrapston along the A605, road shown as closed even though roadworks are overnight. Glad I ignored the warning.
This was just 2 days of relatively low travel for me.
Losing the love for the traffic service and its unreliability.

How is your cable routed? Mine mainly lies across the dash and rarely loses a signal. Even worked well in France. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Lies across the top of the dash, running down to the glove box where it is plugged in. Works fine at home, turn it on and gets signal in seconds, but very flaky when on the move. _________________ Garmin Drivesmart 51 LMT-D Europe |

Mine locks on in a few seconds as long as I haven't started the engine and then is OK. If I start the engine before it's found the traffic, forget it, it just doesn't find it. |
