Hi All

Since updating my map I'm finding my maps are very slow to rotate to the direction Im facing, Im a delivery driver and find myself down many cul de sacs and when I turn round it seems to take a while for the map to rotate and correct its position, it gets frustrating when Im sitting a a junction not knowing whether to turn left or right while the map is still pointing into a cul de sac, Ive reset the device and update the gpsfix regularly.

I also backed up and clean installed software and maps but its still slow.

my deice is 930T

maps 895.4438

app v91430

any advice would be appreciated

Cheers

Do you have any POIs Enabled? This can slow the Map Redraw rate down dramatically. Very often a Map Update will, by default, enable some POIs.

If you need to be aware of several POI categories, consider using Warn When Near, as this doesn't impact on the Map Redraw.

Do you mean Enabled and Warn When Near?

Even 4 POIs enabled to Show on Map will slow the redraw down.

yes they were enabled and warn near, Ive now disabled them, strange thought cos I never enabled them in the first place, when I updated my maps I just did the usual and put all the camera and voice files in the map folder and did the warn near thing. I'll test it this morming and let you know how it performs later.

Thanks for your help

Cheers

Interesting. Not wanting to sound stupid but how do I disable my poi's but allow them to be shown when near. At the moment I think I have all speed cameras and other poi's enabled and my maps are very slow to draw.
Thank you.

Easy peasy...

On a TomTom there are two places to set up your view of POIs

The first is "Show POIs on map"

On an older TomTom that's in Change preferences, page 1
On a new one its Settings, page 1
Tick that box and the icons will be visible on the "View map" screen and the normal driving view all the time.

The second way is the "Warn when near" set-up.
That's done in Change preferences (or Settings) / Manage POIs / Warn when near POIs

When you've set that up for each POI type you wan, the icons will only appear on the driving view when you get within the trigger distance you set.

So to achieve the fastest screen re-draws, try to keep the POIs you have set to "View on map" to a minimum, and use the "Warn when near" for them instead.

ok i know this is going to sound stupid but....
i have tomtom XL Live, if i go to change preferences, manage poi's, i get options to edit poi, delete poi, warn when near etc. do i delete a poi or poi category? if i do this will the poi's still be available to me to set them as warn when near poi or will i have deleted them from my device completely?
sorry to sound stupid but not had the need to alter this before but my redraw speed is just so slow i wanted to try out the suggestions above.

No. Don't do that.

The first thing to do is go to Change Preferences, and on Page 1 is an Icon labelled Show POI on map.

Tap this and you will get a screen of POIs. On this screen Un-tick everything that is ticked.

Once you have done that you can use Warn when Near.

Finally, if you really want to see any POIs all the time, you can then repeat the first step again, to tick them, but only if it's really necessary. Even 4 selected makes a difference to screen redraw.

You will have removed them from the Device.

That's right. I've never understood why "Show POI on map" is not in "Manage POIs" with all the rest of the POI stuff. Confused
