Don't do it outlander! There are a lot of "simple" things this could lead on to, such as FDISK and FORMAT, which would make your (computer's) eyes water. Some of us are too clever for our own good. Last week, I erased Vera's 2GB photo SD card, quite deliberately, but forgetting to first transfer the only photos anybody has of her grandson's 18th birthday party, then we lent the camera to her daughter to take 100 photos of her weekend in Ireland (so Recuva didn't work on the overwritten card) - you can see where I heard of Dunce's corner and naughty step!

Well I wasn't really suggesting that he do it - it was kind of answering his question about CHKDSK generally. But I agree with you Dennis - he shouldn't go there ! If its' broke take the easy route and get it replaced.

It was interesting though to run CHDSK on mine after the ugrade and find all the errors, then formnat the drive and check it again and find it clear of errors, then reload it and find all the errors again !

When I ran CHKDSK on mine (but I'm not brave enough to Format a Tom Tom device) I had absolutely no errors at all, before, during and after. I have a certain reluctance to try too much Windows stuff on a linux system! I don't know linux and who knows Bill Gates?

I don’t think mines broke. Everything seems fine apart from the TTH2 thingy. I do have problem pairing my phone since that first update but truly believe that is a firmware problem. Funny thing is it only played up since update but also there are no issues according to another forum with Pairing N95 to in car hand free blue tooth.

I’m not that bothered with hands free as find B tooth head set easier. I just want the data side of things to work smoothly.

Now I have not seen any reports of broken 720s from online Dixons or has there been.

Found another problem with Home 2.0.0.370, at least with mine (laptop & vista).
Connected and got a prompt to select Memory or SD card. I selected Memory and it just sat with the 'loading' update bar going back & forth.

Got fed up after 5mins so tried again with same result.

Removed SD card and everything worked OK

Any one else with similar experience?

Diablo I think that is a known problem if you read around the forum. Mine also does this. Also you can not use the virtual go while the SD card is in.

Thanks for the reply Outlander and my apolgies to the group.
I always attempt a search before I post but I never seem to pinpoint the subject.

Since I have had mine, just over two weeks now it's been fine but now the battery goes flat after about an hour. Now if I send it back whats the betting I get one of the duff ones in return.

I am trying to backup my 910 using home 2.1 all I get is a moving green bar saying scanning device left it for 20 mins gave up

How long should this take, should it change to copying files

I am using the latest map with map share turned on (update from many users) but have not received any shared updates I thought I would.

Most people here would advise you use Windows Explorer to make your backups. Home (certainly in the past) has had a reputation for missing out large chunks of the backup. Also, with Windows you can see the progress better. Instructions for a FULL Windows Explorer backup are in the TomTom Forum FAQs in the "sticky topics at the top (HERE

Try ticking ALL the boxes. Maybe there aren't any errors that have been reported by "many" yet!

What do you see on the 'Home' screen?
As soon as I connect the Go and fire up Home, it goes straight to a "getting your updates automatically" screen.
When it has finished, it shows major stuff like maps (an old one it won't forget about!) and QuickGPSfix at the top, and at the bottom there are three entries:

Share your map corrections
Map Share - map updates .... Estimated size: Tiny
Map Share - POI updates .... Estimated size: Tiny

All three have tick-boxes next to them.

Is that what you get?

Also, for info, there is still some mystery about exactly what Mapshare is doing and whether it is providing cumulative updates or just incremental ones (e.g. if you have some updates in place, then delete the file and re-download, you can end up with some new ones but NOT the old ones!)

Share your map corrections
Map Share - map updates ....
Map Share - POI updates ....

except no "tiny" or tick boxes
although I do get these for quick fix
