I've got a Medion GPS, I have maps for UK and for Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar.
The unit is ok, frustating that in the UK I can't enter full 7 character postcodes, and that in Spain even in reasonably large towns it only displays larger streets, and in villages eg where we have a house the village is displayed as a blob with no possibility of any detail or navigation to a particular street, (and our house is in the widest street in the village, not one 4 feet wide and only suitable for mopeds).

I need something better. I've tried via the laboriously frustrating TT website to ask if TT really do do real street level mapping of Spain (as they seem to do for England), and received no reply.

I could draw the conclusion that TT do NOT do street level mapping for Spain apart from major cities.

TT can't prove me wrong, can any of you out there tell me the real story? And if so, which model I should consider?

Thanks - BB

Haven't used it in Spain but the map looks well detailed (TT Go 910). You can never say it has every road or street (we can't even say that for UK). My understanding is that the 710 and 910 have Street level mapping but the 510 has major roads only (ie City to City).
If you want to try some road some village/street names then post them here and we will see if they are on the map.

I asked the same question a few weeks back.

The map I have on my 700 which is nearly 2 years old now is a bit vague, but OK in cities and main roads, but the latest map looks a lot better.

Have a looka at the comparison here:

Thanks for your interest sgould.

The second map from bolin is about as detailed (even less?) than I currently get for Canillas de Albaida, on my Medion, which is really less than useless.

In case anyone thinks thatt Spain is a backward country or stuck in a timewarp, there are Spanish government websites that have aerial photos showing boundaries of "parcels" of land (often countryside) which are used in conjunction with planning applications; so the detail is there. I'm just concerned that it's not applied to the GPS systems we use in our cars.

Trying to find a UK retailer that actually has a working system, be it TT or anyone else in their shop also seems to be impossible. You wouldn't spend 3, 4 or 500 pounds on a sofa without trying it out, why should you be expected to do so on a GPS. Someone prove me wrong, please.

Avenida De Sayalonga in Competo is there.

I can find a Calle Monte Santa Ana for Canillas de Albaida, don't know of that's the same road or not though.

Generally detail looks good in these areas with quite a few surrounding adjoining roads.

This is on the TT Go 910 which uses Tele Atlas maps.

Halfords used to have the Tomtoms set up and working although now they have locked them behind glass. PC world also used to have but now they seemed to have them switched off. I would have thought though that you could persuade either of these shops to let you have a play; problem is then not letting them talk you into buying!

Just looked for Canillas de Albaida but the street came up as Calle Monte Santa Ana and not as you have posted. All the streets appear to be there - I've just checked on Autoroute. Some of the names are slightly different but I suspect there is some "anglicising" of foreign names going on.

My sat nav is shown below

Hope this helps

Exactly the same on my TomTom One v2, which uses NavTeq

All

I recall Calle Santa Ana as that (without the Monte) although in some parts of the village (and elsewhere) some houses have two numbers (eg 5 and 8) so a little inconsistency is possible!

My experience of Halfords is exactly that - behind glass or a series of different devices locked into perspex but not acutually working. Might give PC World a try. I definitely want to try before buying.
I have seen Navman advertised in Spain, but not sure that it has detail beyond te major towns.

I appreciate all of your help and feedback. - BB

Hi again! The detail shown on the second map posted in my reply above was some way from the best resolution. If you scroll in you can see all the streets and names. Screen dump from my 2 year old map.

I have a screen dump of Canillas de Albaida from my 2 yr old map here:

Both maps still have some more details available as you can scroll in further.

Thanks for continuing to help.
Your second screenshot of Canillas looks good. I've compared it against Via Michelin and it matches up very well.

Robin
Thanks to you too for double checking Santa Ana.

Looks like you've convinced me. I think it's Navteq maps that I have on my Medion Navigator MDPNA175 version 4.4 (I think).

Time to find a retailer to let me play before buying.

I used TomTom v5 on my mobile last year in Spain, the map is pretty good. Some roundabouts are incorrectly shown as crossroads and vice versa, but otherwise you won't have any problems navigating around.
