The desktop version on Co-Pilot 3.5 has a wizard that allows the upload of map data to the iPAQ. Am I correct in thinking that the complete map data is already stored on the 128MB chip? If so what is the point of the above?
More to the point, is there a way of uploading trips from the desktop to the iPAQ? I've found the Favorite.lst and GPSTrip.trp files in the save area. Do I copy these between the systems? I think I must be missing something really obvious. |

If you load CoPilot 3.5 on the PC, reduce the size of the map and then use the data wizard and select a map area, and draw a square around the UK and Ireland, it will tell you it requires 75.9mb of space to download the map and that's with full detail. What you can do is plan several trips, this especially comes in handy when you want to travel across Europe, as you can create a corridor of maps rather than load the complete European map.
You can create a map corridor and save this to the Pocket PC in the data download wizard. I'm not sure if this will keep favourites etc. |

Ok Dave, I now see the merit in it if you load detailed maps of Europe. I had a play with the Standard UK version that I have and drawing a box around the British Isles and nearly all of Europe, it will save to the Pocket PC. A one off job if you are only travelling in the UK.
You say that it requires 75.9mb of space to download the UK and Ireland. Is there anything to be gained by not utilising the full amount of memory on the chip?
I now understand how to save maps and map corridors but this leaves me with my main question: Can you save a trip that you have planned on the PC back to the Pocket PC? If not I think this should go on our wish list.
There you go, an answer generates another two questions, and with your family trying to drag you from your PC for Easter as well .
Many thanks

You can select the trip by clicking on ‘Data Download Wizard’, Select the Storage, and Select the ‘Trip’. From this screen select the origin, destinations and intermediate stops. Now click on ‘Select Data’ – you should be able to download the trip to your device from here. |

Thanks but all that does is download the map corridor for the trip.
What I was wanting to do was to plan a trip from within the desktop program (not from within the wizard as that does not allow the advanced options) and then save it to the Pocket PC, so that when I start Co-Pilot I just get the option to "start driving" and it knows where my destination and waypoints are from the upload. |

I don’t think it's possible to do this with CoPilot.

Having played with it for a while now, I believe you are correct. One for the wish list I think.
The "manual" seems somewhat lacking. It is clear that the software does a lot more than is advertised. The way it changes display based on speed for instance is a good feature but one that I knew nothing about until I noticed it with usage.
Today I discovered the ability to playback GPS tracks, but I don't know how I recorded them. I wonder what else is in store!!
With better marketing, I’m sure they would sell more of these and thus bring the price down. |

GoodMan's right, it's not possible. Would be nice if it was though! |
