|
|
Hi all,
While waiting for my SmartST V3 package to arrive, I'd like to ask those of you running the V3 SW if the speed bug in V2 (see this thread). Has been solved.
The key question is if the speed increment is 1kph as it should or if it's still rounded to nearest 3-4kph increment as it was in SmartST V2. From the responses in my previous thread I get the impression that the bug was not appearing when mph was chosen as speed unit but only for kph. Interestingly enough, it showed that the speed display was correct on the GPS status screen - the bug was only to be seen on the navigation screens.
I've emailed Navman about this bug but haven't received any response as to whether this has been solved in V3 or not. Might seem like a small bug, but I still think it's annoying when you can't trust the information that is displayed. Especially when you know that the GPS signal allows for better data resolution.

Come on you V3 owners whats the answer?
I have noticed this bug/feature and I have also switched to status screen to watch accurate speed but been irritated to lose voice instructions, so I am interested to know the answer.
Although I am sligtly pot off by the message that says the new V3 maps are not as good as my existing V1.91 maps and that V3 can't use the V1.91 maps.

I will receive my V3 package this afternoon or tomorrow so I'll let you know after the weekend what conclusions I've come to.
I must say I'm disappointed with the bad (or rather non-existing) email response from Navman regarding technical questions like this one. They should be interested in getting this kind of feedback to be able to improve their products. This particular bug should be easy to fix with a service pack... _________________ TomTom GO720T: App ver 8.351(9982/090518), OS:315187, GPS v1.20, Boot 5.5120

Good news!
The bug is fixed in my version 3 software (PPC)
Under steady acceleration I witnessed 1k increments on the status screen right through to 130 kmh. _________________ Ian.

Hmm, perhaps I should read the posts fully before jumping in.
From the original thread on this problem back in December I assumed the problem was apparent on all screens. Now I see that it is reported that the status screen has always displayed correctly which means my observation this morning was fruitless.
I will try again later using the map screens. _________________ Ian.

Bad news!
The problem is still not fixed.
Next turn screen and 3D map screen shows the same 3-4 kmh increments as previously stated.
Status screen gives 1 kmh increments as it should. _________________ Ian.

Hmmm...Not the news I was hoping for....
I haven't had time to try this out myself yet though. I can't understand why Navman don't fix this simple bug. I informed them about it some months ago and it should have been an easy thing to correct it before the V3 release.
icsys, did you notice if the voice commands were working from the status screen? In V2 they aren't, i.e you get no sound at all.

There is no voice guidance from the GPS Status screen as it is not intended for that.
All the map screens, 2D map (when a route is set), 3D map screen, Next Instruction screen, Instruction List screen and the new Turn List View screen all give voice commands and also POI alerts if set. _________________ Ian.

Now I can confirm what icsys has stated already, i.e that the speed bug is still there in SmartST V3. I don't know if it helps to email Navman again about this issue...

What makes you think it's a bug? Have you asked Navman if it was designed that way? _________________ Tim |

I emailed Navman about this some months ago when I found the bug/feature in the SmartST V2 SW for the first time. They "kind of" confimed that it was a non-desired behaviour and promised to pass it on to the developers. Since then I haven't heard anything.
I personally don't see a reason for designing the system this way on purpose, but maybe I have missed something...
