Firmware 4.40 out to replace the short-lived 4.30 which caused issues for some.

Changelog simply states:
- Fixed an issue that caused wireless map updates to fail.

Garmin has just released a major firmware update to version 6.xx

Notable is the ability to use the Galileo GPS system and IMPROVED (whatever this means!) routing calculations.

Full changelog for 6.00 is as follows:
- Added support for the new Garmin BC40 Wireless Backup Camera
- Enabled Galileo satellite support
- Improved routing calculations
- Improved the reliability of connections to Bluetooth devices
- Fixed an issue that caused some words to be mispronounced
- Fixed an issue that could cause incorrect route calculations when using maps of Southern Asia
- Improved software stability

I have downloaded the update and have a slightly off-topic query.

In the list of compatible devices or the new camera, it lists the DriveSmart 51 LMT-S but not the 51 LMT-D, which is what I have. However, it showed up as part of the update to my device and I now have an extra icon on my screen.

Just in case I might decide, at some point, to buy a reversing camera, does the BC 40 work with both versions of the 51 DriveSmart?.

You should be fine as the LMT-S and LMT-D differ only in the way that the traffic signal is received by the unit with the LMT-D model receiving traffic digitally.

After nearly 3 years, out of the blue Garmin has released an update (cersion 6.60) for the 2017 Drive range.

The changelog states the update is to do with an alternative traffic provider in Germany.

However, as the previously published version (available on Garmin Express) was 6.20 (with nothing published since) it's likely there are other unstated changes that were made in 6.30, 6.40 and 6.50 that were used as a production release only or didn't merit a full release.

Ver. 6.20 was publushed on 29/08/2019 and:
Improved the reliability of phone calls made using the Smartphone Link app.
Fixed an issue that caused the device to shut down with certain third-party maps.

Wonder if my DS61 falls under the change.

Nothing yesterday morning when I updated the cams.

"Improved Software Stability"

The update for my DS51 included provision for a new digital traffic provider in Germany.

Is there any word on this returning in the UK?

I'm finding the Smartlink traffic identical to the old cable traffic.

My guess is that when they turned off Inrix based cable, they switched Smartlink from viaMichelin to Inrix.

I've got no complaints.
