Hi, after a long time I see I last popped back in here in November 21, now Jan 22....Happy NewYear.

I have since bitten the bullet and gone with Speedtrap Alert which seems to be OK....all sound off, and running in the background with either Copilot or Sygic . (But I still miss CamerAlert)

I am now looking to upgrade to a Samsung s20 ultra. Before diving in, can anybody advise of any pitfalls to be aware of ?

Thanks.

Not the S20 but 8t works perfectly on my S10

I use the speedo display and my Garmin DS61 for mapping.

Warning.
The app may experience problems with the database download.
Authentication now fails for unknown reasons and then the the app crashes (my bug).

I've just tested it on my Sammy S10 and the update has worked OK.

if you need to pass the capture proving you're a human (buses, boats, planes selection) visiting PGPSW website, then you'll have a problem with database update in the app.

Ah, that's why mine was OK.

Ah, what country are you in Leo?

We hardened the security on the site using CloudFlare so there are a number of checks in place. If it thinks a request is dodgy then it will do the Captcha.

ALso, what URL are you requesting in the app? I can likely whitelist that for all users regardless of country (I thought I already had but may need to check). If you have a 'Ray ID' from CloudFlare can you let me know so I can check the logs?

I'm in Russia. Well understand that traffic is set as suspicious in the protection configuration.

My dedicated home IP address is 195.91.230.108.
If it is possible to configure somehow the protection with this IP whitelisted - it would be enough for me for testing and debugging.

URLs STA requests during over-the-air update:

1) POST https://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Your_Account

with this request body:
username={0}&user_password={1}&redirect=&mode=&f=&t=&op=login&submit=Login
STA substitutes {0} and {1} with credentials provided.

2) Once request #1 succeeds STA takes "user" part from the "Set-Cookie" response header and makes next request:
GET https://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Cameras&op=DownloadPackage&getPmob=yes&idPackage=500
with the "Set-Cookie" header and "user" part.

3) if request #2 succeeds, STA scans response html body for "<meta http-equiv=refresh content=0;url=http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/"
If it is found, the app knows direct URL for zipped file.

4) The app loads zip file using direct URL and unzips it.

The app fails at the very first step. It receives 403 Forbidden http status and there is nothing more to do. Only to fail database update entirely.

Ray Id - I haven't found it yet.

I've tweaked the firewall to allow you in - you shouldn't get that CAPTCHA now.

@Leo_A

I noticed that STA is available via the Microsoft Store.

What I also noticed is 2 settings that I can't find :

How do I get the red/white limit sign on the Speedo display, shown here as 50
How do I get the larger camera display shown here as Gatso, mine is smaller and nearer the top.

Thanks

Hi Kremmen,

1. you need to download the maps in the App to get the speed limits showing
Settings - Advanced Settings - Road Network - Press Plus + & Download the UK maps.

2. you need to change the Popup window setting e.g. Settings - Alerts - Speed Camera (heading Popup Window)

Note the size of this can be changed in Settings - Look and Feel - Popup Windows - Size 200% for example

To reposition it tap the screen within STA then press the top right 3 dots and Quick test, then position the popup where you want it placed then double tap to hide it again. It *should* remember the position you set.

PS This is in Android, but I'd guess similar to MS :-)

Regards

Thanos

I'd already done all that, and double checked my settings.

I still don't get the speed limit sign and my camera popup is set to large horizontal but it always appears at the top and not as large as the one posted.

Strange.

Edit: Just found one possible relevant setting.

Speed Limit, show on map when driving. I've ticked it so I'll see next time.

Thank you.
Captcha still appears for URL:

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/temp/users/pgpsw-speed-cams-XXXXX-(20-013).zip

this is the final step. All previous steps succeed.

I see captcha in browser. STA tries to work with received content as with ZIP stream and of course fails.

Try to check this in map mode (not speedo). Speed limit must appear near map-speedo at the bottom-left.

No, this is not relevant setting. When checked, small speed signs appear on the map in the places where limit changes.
To display current limit it is enough to download road network file.
May be there is a bug in the speedo mode.

Thanks Leo

I'll uncheck that and watch more closely when I get to a valid road.

I'm still puzzled why my popup warnings are at the very top of the screen and smaller than the Gatso example shown above.

I've got the popup set to large horizontal.
