I find quite a few map errors with my work Garmin satnav. Can they be reported?

Have you checked the Here mapping to see if it is correct ? Garmin maps seem to be way behind the actual map base.

It's actually not that easy to report map errors with Garmin. I'm finding loads of errors as well. Especially streets that are now blocked off, which is a PITA.

Do they use HERE mapping?

Yes. Think over the years I've only come across a few errors on Garmin maps, and if reported they are corrected in the next map update. One new housing estate near us once opened appeared in the next update.

Loads of errors on mine, sends you up blocked streets all the time. And they've been blocked for years.

No idea, I just looked up Here map error reporting.

The problem with pure Here mapping v SatNav is that the various SatNav companies need to process the new roads and layouts as SatNavs need to know the speeds, junctions, etc to allow route and time calculation.

That's why they are often well behind the latest map.

One method which doesn't seem to work, is editing the HERE map directly (via https://mapcreator.here.com/ ...

I moved our village Post Office to its correct location, in late 2019. I just logged in to check my change is still there (it is) - but the change has not shown up in the Android HERE Maps app, let alone Garmin's maps Crying or Very sad

It's really rubbish. For my job I often have to visit schools and it rarely takes you to the entrance to the school car park. One school it took me to a housing estate round the back of the school.

Errors in POIs are down to those who supply them as Garmin don't have 100s of thousands of folks compiling them. More accurate POIs come from forums like here, with folks who have a particular interest keeping them up to date or companies who compile their own. For example you can get universities here https://poi.gps-data-team.com/united_kingdom/education/ but unfortunately for you it doesn't include schools.

Hi, mccririck,

Have you or your colleagues considered creating your own custom POIs for your job?

Google Earth is a good source from where you can search for the car park entrance and then obtain the coordinates.

I use an MS Excel spreadsheet for POIs that contains columns for information such as: ID (incremental number); Latitude; Longitude; Name; Region (user defined); Categories (user defined); Phone; Created (date); Updated (date); Confirmed (date); Device; Submitter name; Updater name

Not all of the above are necessary but they are useful for change records.

At the very minimum, you can Cut & Paste the Latitude, Longitude, and Name columns into a .csv file and load that into your Garmin.

Regards,

There are two streets in St Andrews in the town centre that tell you to go the wrong way! Garmin tells you to turn down Queens Gardens from the A918 South Street but that's the wrong way and there are "No Entry" signs.

Also at the Beginning of South Street there's an archway and there's "No Entry" signs for when you're heading west through to the roundabout. Garmin appear to have the "No Entry" the wrong way round.

I find errors like this unacceptable.

Hopefully you've reported it then as unless someone does how are Garmin expected to know? Normally they get their info from professional bodies, 2 new housing estates near me for example were on the next map update, presumably put into the system by the relevant council.
