Bought 50LMT-D approx 3 years ago. Two months ago refused to turn on.Sent for repair but told not economical. Bought replacement 50LMT-D on eBay. Worked well but that now refusing to turn on.
Suspect batteries died.
Anybody recommend a good battery replacement kit?

Try pressing and holding the power switch for 30 to 60 seconds. If still no luck charge it overnight then try. If you get it working ensure next time you fully shut it down rather than giving the power switch a brief tap, as that only switches it to standby and the battery will slowly drain.

If you do go down the replacement battery route then be very careful.

I had a Garmin that hadn't been used very much and I let it go totally flat. As with other new devices that use rechargeables the advice is to keep them charged or the battery degrades, as mine did.

The end result was that the battery, from full charge, wouldn't hold it for more than a few days wheras my older Garmin, that had been used daily for over a year will hold it's charge for months.

The careful bit - I set about changing the battery and it's very fiddly. I managed to get the unit apart and all was going well but the terminal that the battery plugs into isn't secured to the PCB very well and when connecting the new battery it just broke away with very little pressure. Make sure you use finger and thumb to hold the terminal in place.
Also, take a note which way the battery plug goes in. Some drop in from the top, which helps as you are pressing down, but some, as mine, slide in from the side and need holding.

Best of luck:

a) sourcing a replacement battery
b) replacing it

Thanks for the advice. I hadn’t realised that a short press on power switch only puts it into standby. Will fully turn-off in future.
Managed to get it working by changing the car charger. Luckily I had a spare that also supports traffic..

Last month, I finally installed a new battery in my 2599 LMTD.

I bought the battery from ebay last summer, because the original had been been fading gradually.

I followed the youtube guide OK - a bit fiddly but I got there with due care.

It works just fine now.

If your battery is fading, then you can change it, if I can !

I just successfully changed my 2599 battery.

The key is to note that the battery connector lifts up from the PCB and doesn't slide out.
