Seems to be a kind of GPS V replacement

Colour. Voice. Faster processor. LiON battery. More memory. USB...

http://www.garmin.com/products/quest/

Anyone any experience if one? Seems like it might be a more portable alternative to a TT Go, too...

It's basically a replacement for the V with colour screen. The screen is much smaller than a TomTom GO or iCN630, but if you want something really small that could be put in your pocket then a Quest maybe a better solution.

You are locked to City Navigator that comes with the unit because Garmin lock the GPS and software together so you can't load any other maps onto it apart from Garmin Cartography.

Hi,

I've been looking at the Quest as a replacement to my trusty Garmin V,
the unit that I currently use both in my cars and also out and about.

The Quest would seem to offer real improvements in size and particuarly
the extra memory capacity. You can download the users manual from the
US www.garmin.com site of course which I have done and read.

If you search around (google, ebay, and garmin UK tech support) they
say the UK version has 256MB memory, whereas the US version has 115MB. Garmin UK technical told me both have basemaps so cannot
imagine why the UK version has so much more memory? It apparently
comes with City select 6.

The way the current ROMS and software products work of course is that you register your software on their website with the serial of your unit. This then returns a key which you use to unlock the product on your PC. So in fact the software is locked to your unit (only). .... grrr.

Anyway main point of the post is the memory issue? Can anybody explain
what is going on.

Regards Marcus

Unless this has changed, you can actually register the software to two units, providing that you own them both.

I sold my Garmin V in March and moved to TomTom on a HP2200.

Great in the van but not at all the thing for my motorbike.

As such, I ordered a Quest as soon as they were announced, it came yesterday and I'm well impressed.

Only downside is I've got to wait until 'end December' for the Garmin m/c mount.

Though looking at the bits supplied I think I can see an adaptation coming on!

I have put some of my thoughts of the Quest in a review which is located in the general Beginners GPS forum.
