Yes I would have missed it as well.

It seems you now are obliged to update your device software, along with downloading the maps.
No longer can you select just the maps alone.

I suspect deeper Garmin motives. (But I am suspicious, they say).

Updated my map today and as soon as it finished it came up with another map update.

edit: I think that was because it screwed up the first time Embarassed

Downloaded the maps on to my 3598.

The files were:
# CN Europe NTU 2020.20 ALL NORTH
# CN Europe NTU 2020.20 ALL SOUTH
# Europe DEM
# 2020.20 BASIC 3D

Is the last one a new version of the 3D map?
I don't remember it being called BASIC before... or am I getting old....

Problems and solution.

Once I got Garmin Express running I started the map update and it reported a data error, big red flag, and the download stopped. After restarting is managed to get further then same red flag. Probably tired one more time then Live Chat popped up. Nothing ventured.

Any way jumping forward I got it all to download. The full tale is below:

He rang back in the promised 5 minutes and I installed a remote viewer as instructed. After explaining the problem he complained my laptop is very slow and ran some tests. He ran a net test and pronounced that my PC was being used by the Chinese. WTF? Anyway he asked it I was going to remain where I was. WTF? I asked if it was a firewall problem, no, then he offered a 3-year fix at 3.99, 5-year at 5.99 and life time at 7.99. Well planning on a laptop change within 3 years and $3.99 plus VAT sounded fine. Is that 3 or 3 hundred. Yes, 3 hundred.

I terminated the call. Rebooted and tried again. It downloaded the maps but red flag again after about 30%. Tried a second time and it all downloaded. I suspect band width with TV both using internet streaming.
