It's also a case that what some folks consider the 'better route' others don't. It might seem easy to design a satnav routing algorithm to suit everyone but it's not. You might say well give us the option to avoid certain types of road, but what then if a route takes you a further 20 odd miles say, just because you've selected an option to avoid certain road types, when a few hundred yards on that would have helped?

If you want maximum flexibility then some of the satnavs designed for motorhomes and lorries may help you, but they're more expensive ...

I think those who don't mind being routed off a perfectly good main road to travel down pot-hole-riddled dirt tracks, just to save in most cases, just a mile or so at most would be in a tiny minority. It's often quicker and certainly safer to stay on the main road, even in good daylight, let alone on a wet or icy winter's night.

Well I'd agree with that but I've never experienced that, sometimes onto perfectly good 'country roads' though Very Happy

I don't mind some country lanes, but the type I object to being sent down are those like in the examples I provided in my opening post. In my view, there is nothing sensible about being diverted off a dual-track road, to be sent down one of those, where you are lucky to average 30mph, even if you don't meet oncoming traffic and where you risk damaging your car, or at the very least, getting it really dirty.

By the way, how do you get the pictures to actually appear in your post, rather than just displaying the link?

You need to insert a link to a host site like Imgur.

Here is a Imgur link:

To get it to work, copy it and add a square bracket to the start and end. When you do it will look like:

I've modified the link to follow the pattern you showed, but it still doesn't work.

The subject was covered two posts ago. Did you not read Kremmen's post telling you exactly how to do it?

Then you did something wrong @cottonsocks

If that answer was meant for me, it wasn't my question. So, I must assume that an image cannot be uploaded directly from PC to this site. One must upload to a cloud server first. Thanks for explanation.

I did read Kremmen's post and I did follow his instructions, but it still doesn't work. The images are located online at the link I provided in my opening post.

Then you did something wrong @cottonsocks

Can you have a look at the link for me then and tell me what I have done wrong? Thanks.

Your link is missing square brackets at beginning and end, also looking at your link it isn't to a single image

I removed the other brackets on Kremmen's instructions, so it must be because I was trying to link to a folder, rather than an individual image. I'll try amending later today to see I can get it to work.

Just paste this:

Into your reply and put a square bracket at the start and end

How to get an imgur link is another story but simple when you know how

@cottonsocks And please remove the totally unnecessary quote of the post with the pic.

He didn't tell you to remove square brackets, he told you to add square brackets at the start and end of his nearly complete link. Rolling Eyes
