Are the congestion zone and the ULEZ currently the same? At the moment, my Garmin will avoid the congestion zone as a "toll" If the ULEZ is the same, all well and good, but I wonder when Garmin will be issuing a update if it is slightly different?

Come to think of it, when it is extended outwards in 2021, I wonder how that will be handled? That's an awful lot of roads to avoid, plus, if other cities take it on board!

At the moment it's identical.

In Oct 2021 it's going to be extended considerably, out to the north and south circular.

The news reports are full of drivers moaning but their old dirty diesels are a serious problem.

£12.50 a day on top of the congestion charge.

There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to what vehicles are subjected to the charge, glad I don't live in, or drive socially in London. My MG is subject to the charge, but a similar model from 2 years previous isn't and some from the same year are exempt too. there is speculation that TfL have just plucked some vehicles out of the air as the manufacturers are no longer able to provide information.

When it moves to the boundary of the M25, that will be a huge area and very difficult to avoid. When working, I like to make it as cheap as possible for my employers by avoiding toll roads and the congestion zone, but the ULEZ is a different beast altogether.

My van is exempt (until they change the rules!), and I’m hoping the ULEZ will chop back on the congestion - when congestion charge was first introduced it was almost a pleasure driving into London, but now it’s just an extra cost to go sit in a traffic jam!

A lot of drivers are moaning and accusing the Mayor of a cash collection exercise.

However, it's a fact that a lot of London streets are producing pollution 3 times higher than guidelines and the congestion charge isn't the deterent they hoped it would be.

Only a few weeks ago I was on the raised platforms of London Bridge station which has a good view over London. I couldn't make out a lot of Canary Wharf because the buildings were shielded by a dark grey pollution fog.

Walking down the Marylebone Road or Oxford Street you can often taste the pollution.

£50 a week isn't working so let's try £125 a week for the most polluting vehicles.

Businesses are moaning that delivery charges will rise but when I'm on a A40 bridge in rush hour the A40 isn't full of delivery vehicles but private cars all crawling nose to tail driving in. I was walking down the Euston road a few weeks back, midday, again, not commercial vehicles nose to tail but private cars, often with just one person.

My delivery charges won't increase - my van is Euro 6 engine - so it's clean. But I never start the engine with my door open - a lifetime of smoking has left me with lungs which detect every last particle from my own super clean exhaust!

Simple problem is the electric version of my van has a range of approx 107 miles. We're stuck with diesel until somebody comes up with a battery that will do 600 miles like my diesel tank. (Oh, and recharge in five minutes like the pump in the local Esso).
