|
|
I noticed that Garmin folder (including download maps) has taken over substantial space on my C Drive. Is it possible to transfer this folder to another Drive? Can I uninstall Garmin and reinstall on another drive? I recall when I installed the Garmin software, it did not give me a choice of drive and carried on with C Drive. |

You can use JaVaWa's GMTK to move map files
http://www.javawa.nl/gmtk_en.html
Note this is only necessary if you're using Basecamp or Mapsource. If you don't you can simply delete the files. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Ok - if I uninstall Garmin from my PC, how can I install it again to a SPECIFIC drive of my choice (apart from C Drive)? |

What do you mean by Garmin? Are you talking about Express? If so there is no option to have it run on another drive AFAIK. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I've just updated my 2597. At no point did it offer an alternative scratchfile download to anywhere other than it's default which is presumably the C:\ drive.
Not a problem if you have a large C:\ drive but older PC's and newer small SSD drives need to keep as much away from the C:\ as possible.
This latest for the 2597 was 6.3Gb (UK only) so a sizeable chunk of my 120Gb SSD that is already at 76Gb full. _________________ Satnav:

You can clear most of that. Once the maps are installed onto your device you only need the files on your c drive IF you use Basecamp or Mapsource. If you don't you can simply delete them.
If you do as I posted above use GMTK to move the map files used by Basecamp/Mapsource to wherever you want them. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I've just performed a complete search of my C:\ drive for Garmin and there are no multi Gb or even Mb size files in there so it must have cleaned up after itself.
I've just checked via a GPS simulator route and the obsolete historic traffic on the A312 is still showing and it reckons with a lane closed.
Fail !!!
When I dig deeper in the roadworks they are all showing with a suffix of Naas whatever that is ?
After some investigation it looks like Naas is the viaMichelin traffic service so Smartlink may prefer viaMichelin to Inrix where the problem may be. I've zoomed in on viaMichelin for the A312 and there are no roadworks, correct, so why is it showing them? _________________ Satnav:

I get the same problem locally
Roadworks which are finished showing up - I use Digital Traffic built in on my 2699 and also my SmartLink subscription
It seems to be the Smartlink data throwing up the old information
(although both work reasonably well together now - unlike earlier versions) _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600

I have contacted Garmin today and they told me that second line support are aware. Fob off, who knows?
I agree that it's not as bad as it was 6 months ago though.
One other thing I've only just noticed on my 2597 that I updated today. May have been there before but I don't remember it.
Under the Traffic section are 3 options:
No Traffic
Basic Traffic
All Traffic
When I initially switched it from full to basic it lost the roadworks but subsequently they came back.
I'll check my 2599 tomorrow as I updated the firmware but not the maps. Probably the same though.
If they fed Inrix through Smartlink then it would be job done. _________________ Satnav:

I believe that's always been there, at least the option is mentioned in the original user manual. Basic should only get you warned of 'severe delays', however that is defined. I have mine set to All traffic, that way I can decide if it's severe enough to warrant a detour _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I think you are right, if they switch Smartlink to only Inrix like the Digital Traffic and their Navigon App everything would be okay
Perhaps they will see sense, if they cannot get their other data providers to provide accurate information _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600

With the 2597 set to basic I am still getting the yellow traffic bands. I assume when available I will get the red bands as well so I wonder what is considered traffic not serious enough to report on that setting?
All I've seen over the years is red and yellow. If basic doesn't report roadworks with 'no delay' them I'm in _________________ Satnav:

I'll do another test tomorrow and get some screendumps for reference.
