Any sign yet of Go6000s being able to accept and display PGPSW camera data?
Any promise of it, even, before I change? |

well according to their forums, if/when they release the ability to use 3rd party poi on the devices they will not support audio alerts, which will mean there will no point in using the pgpsw database on the devices.
hopefully they will change this so that audio alerts can be used for 3rd party poi |

You can always use the Tom Tom for visual and CamerAlert for audio warning side by side, which is what I did before I cracked the screen on my 940. I was told by support that custom POIs are coming too, but I won't hold my breath! _________________ Mike

What possible reason could TomTom have for not providing audio alerts I wonder?
TomTom started out fully supporting the community websites, and thrived as a result. We did all their support for them, provided all the POIs and custom icons etc etc
Sadly they have done a full 180 now and become a closed shop. They have copied all of the great ideas the community dreamt up and locked us out.
A real shame. _________________ Darren Griffin |

PNDs are dead in the water now. TomTom are desperately scrabbling to find a market that can fill the gap. Automotive is a tough nut to crack in the numbers they need and probably a lot more expensive/less margin to boot.
Smartphone apps and Wearables is now where it's at. TomTom can't be making much on their apps when they have lifetime map updates FOC and wearables is still relatively niche in comparison to the explosion in PND sales when this first began.
Will TomTom survive long term? Tough call. _________________ Darren Griffin |

To my mind, one of the big problems with TomTom PND's (and Garmin for that matter) is that there are just too many different models and customer choice is difficult. Manufacturing so many different models has got to increase the cost of each unit.
Most cars are going to be fitted with Factory fit, locked-down SatNAvs, and the car manufacturers shall squeeze the last penny out of the SatNAv suppliers, so no margin there.
If TT, Garmin et al produced just two models in their ranges, a basic A-B device and an All-Singing, All-Dancing SatNAv, both of which took 3rdPArty POI's and if both were reasonably priced, I reckon that they could stave off the graveyard for a few years yet.
I much prefer navigating with a PND rather than my phone. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

I haven't used a PND in years now. I rely on my phone. It's always in a cradle charging on the dash. The screen is a little small and my eyes aren't getting any better, but I've just ordered a new mahoosive iPhone so that wont be an issue any longer. _________________ Darren Griffin |
