Anyone else with a Tom Tom experiencing erratic traffic information through TMC? I have got to the stage where I cannot trust the information that is being displayed on my screen. Over the last few weeks, delays of over 300 minutes have been reported, roads reported as closed (overnight roadworks still closed at 11am in the morning with the road open), sitting in a traffic jam for 20 minutes before being notified of a 45 minute delay, I could go on.....

I am having to go back to relying on the sometimes incorrect information displayed on the overhead gantries to decide if my TomTom is displaying correctly, or if it is a work of fiction Evil or Very Mad

I don't know if it is an issue with the information being provided, or how the information is processed by the unit. Yes, I know my sig says a via 120 Live, but I have a RDS aerial and no Live sub. It worked fine when I first changed to the aerial, this has happened over the last couple of months,

Mark

I very much doubt that it's only over the last couple of months. More probably it is just that you have travelled 'that way' and there have been such instances at that time.

Not long ago, I reported a comparison between RDS-TMC Traffic and HD Traffic and I too had instances of overnight closures showing on RDS-TMC which were not on HD.

I never did trust RDS-TMC and it was a very long time before I came round to giving more credence to HD Traffic - I preferred to listen to Radio Five Live Traffic reports which always seemed to be more up to date, albeit they too were often slow to report removal of problems.

I am speaking from experience of running RDS-TMC alongside HD Traffic on separate units over the last three years and more.

TMC RDS in my opinion is fairly useful but not very good in rapidly changing traffic conditions.

I remember my old Trafficmaster Oracle/Freeway/QBusta units that used up to date data via roadside beacons. I frequently had the situation, on the M25, where RDS would report the tail of the jam being junction 15, the Oracle/Freeway/QBusta reporting the jam tail being at junction 13 and in 99% of cases the Oracle/ Freeway/QBusta was right.

Why - because TMC-RDS is only updated every 15 minutes and it then has to be relayed to FM radio stations and then relayed to compatible car units.

I'm finding the same differences between TMC-RDS and Garmin Smartlink traffic, Garmin is way more accurate.
