For some time now I have been using my Germin Pilot III for flying and it is great, but I think it is time I started to connect the devices together.

This is what I'd like to beable to do if possible?

1, Download GPS route logs from the Garmin to my Laptop and store them.

2, Us the stored Maps on my laptop and match them up to OS Maps that I scan in to the laptop.

3, Connect the Garmin up to the iPAQ and run some software to route find while driving.

I don't have any way of connecting the devices together, so I'd need some advice on that. However if I am to use the Garmin with the iPAQ then I'd need to power both the iPAQ and Garmin from car too.

Regards

For the iPAQ it's easy - you can get one of the existing serial connectors with cigarette lighter charger, and then change the connector at the end where the GPS receiver is into a Garmin serial connector.

For the Notebook it's pretty much the same - serial DB9 connector (if your notebook still has one) and if you want to power the Garmin from the notebook you'lll have to get the juice from a PS/2 or USB port.

Points 1 and 2 are do-able like Lutz says, but point 3 isn't do-able AFAIK.

Why not?

On the GPS or on Ipaq? (Tom Tom?)
