After years of cursing Windows, I switched to iMac some little time ago (18 months?). Unfortunately, my business accounts were all in Lotus 1-2-3 for Windows (brilliant programs, but there's no Mac version). So I bought and installed Parallels and ran my accounts there. I was expert level on 1-2-3.
But I eventually bit the bullet and bought MS Office for Mac, was able to convert a spreadsheet to Excel and away I go (unhappily at novice level, but with all my formulae converted, working).
So I now run perhaps three programs, only occasionally, in Windows. But I very very much want to continue doing so.
After upgrading to Mac OsX Lion, I also eventually submitted to updating Paralles to v7 (Switch to Mac version, upgraded from 6 Switch to Mac). Since which time or thereabouts it seems my DVD drive is no longer available to Windows. I think it came about at one or other of those upgrades, can't be sure because I rarely use the drive in Windows - it only really reared its head when I went to install an upgrade today.
I get a message saying.. Quote: | Unable to connect to CD/DVD 1.
A file or device required for the operation of CD/DVD 1 does not exist or is used by another process, or you have no permission to access it. The virtual machine will continue running, but the device will be disconnected. |
I have used up the full range of my incompetence - Restored the Mac to 1st March, in Windows uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, tried to install Bootcamp, but that wouldn't work either (after a few hours watching paint dry).
PLEASE can anybody suggest something which an old idiot has a chance of understanding? (I did try to contact Parallels support, but failed miserably). The drive IS accessible in Finder. _________________ Dennis
