I would be interested in hearing if anyone has managed to secure a map update for the "Connect" via Nissan or one of its dealers -- and if you have what the cost was.

After several tries during the past two months my Nissan dealer has still not been able to come up with information on this for me. Unfortunate as, for the most part, I find the GPS itself works quite well.

I know there are sources where you can download map updates, but they may well be of questionable parentage!

I have just purchased a new Nissan with the Nissan Connect and SatNav.
The dealer tells me that the maps (on SD card) will be updated free when it goes in for service (annual).
The engineer told me that as yet they were unsure if the cards would be updated or replaced as Nissan want to stop any copying of them so the cards are secured to their system.

Had no problem getting the camera updates via the USB port installed but as mentioned the warning is quite easy to miss and the icon is only an X.

Will retain my TomTom system for a while yet as it is only a couple of months old.

Very interesting and useful information. I will have yet another go with my dealership and see what reaction I get. This update approach was never suggested to me when I enquired in the past.

An annual update is better than nothing --- but still far from ideal. The quarterly updates from Garmin or TomTom are a more standard approach.

I have not attempted to add camera data -- will have to explore that option.

Have now read the manual and it does state that there will be an annual update only. Doesn't say when. States that the system is a Robert Bosch manufacture using NavTec mapping. Also has a routing that uses the TMA information when route planning.

Also states that the SD card is used only for the maps and that it is "protected" to help prevent theft and should not be used in any PC as that may cause damage to the data and make it unusable.

If you follow the directions re the folders for the POI's onto the USB stick then it was all very painless and automatic.

Pity about not being able to update the camera sound warnings.

As a committed TomTom user I trust my TomTom and what I put on my TomTom and will see it the new mounting works on the Note's dashboard lid so I can continue to use it.

Took a written note in to the dealer regarding a couple of issues relating to my new NOTE car. One of the items was a request for confirmation that the maps would be updated. He again confirmed that the map will be updated at the service time.

That would be a good idea, if that map and indeed even the program gets all relevant updates when connected to their computer when getting a genuine service. I am taking delivery of My new Nissan Qashqai +2 tomorrow evening and will try to ask some questions about the maps updates. What is the date on your maps? I suspect 2008, do you see this information of the navigation display or is it seen on the SD card package? If your new Nissan's have 2008, I'm thinking they did a deal with Bosch and ordered all the Connect's in early to mid 2009 and took delivery too of thousands of 2008 SD cards. I might have more information next week, as I've e-mail Bosch, http://www.bosch-presse.de/TBWebDB/en-US/PressText.cfm?Search=1&id=4011
for more information

I recently contacted my dealer again on this issue and was told that the price of a map update was now £110 !!!!

This is getting more insane all the time.

I have tried contacting Nissan directly but can get no response. Will have another go at them

You are always better of with a stand alone navigator that you control. If a car comes with a navigator all well and good but do not base your purchase on paying the premium for that model. Updates or new maps for cars will always be very expensive. I use IGO 8 (NavNgo) updates (that is 4 quarters per year) was only a about 50€ and was for the whole of Europe. No mucking about with dealers of car manufacturers or Bosch (in this case).
I can alter and change many functions and properties of the igo8 import any POI and have speed camera speeds read out to me or just signalled. I use the connect only as an emergency or to follow my position zoomed out to see traffic problems (TMC). My igo uses TMC too, as I have buries a Royaltek GPS/TMC next to the nissan GPS inside the dash and use my old but excellent HP IPAQ 5550. I also have a HTC HD2 and an iphone fitted to the dash via the Brodit holders. As I travelled all over Europe all were useful for routing and finding POI while I drove.

Goto connect.nissan.eu

Select make, mode, etc, via the menu on the left.
The system will offer to sell you a new SD card.
You may not like the price!

It would appear that for £159 I would get exactly the same SD card that I already have, ie 2010. ...' 1 SD Card Europe Version 2010...' Now you try to get your money back after paying and receiving this. Sad Rolling Eyes Shocked
Even now the latest available maps with probably be Q2 or Q3 2011.
Save your money and buy something else to use in this car and be aware when you are looking at or for your next new car.

I bought a 2011/2012 SD card for the Connect system for my Juke on eBay. Ensure you get the part number 25920 BH00D (with a 'D' at the end, not 'C' which will be the one you already have). I paid £29.99 - here's one that's cheaper! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-2011-12-Nissan-Connect-SD-Card-UK-All-EU-Maps-/290709400692?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item43afa16c74
