ALK have announced their new CoPilot 8 program, not just for the iPhone but also for Google's Android platform. As far as I know ALK are the first ones to bring out a navigation program for Android. Destinator 9 is yet to come out officially; and Navigon are expected to announce their version in late August 2009 as an offboard solution, with maps and routing off a server.

We review the Android version of CoPilot 8, but its behaviour is very similar to what you will find on the iPhone (The Android version actually has quite a few more features). Both platforms are based on similar operating systems (Linux/BSD) and they (currently) share the same screen geometry (320x480 pixels) and technology (capacitive touch screen, 3D sensor).

Read on for the review

I wasn't permitted to put it in the review but now ALK have officially announced their MapSure service:
Quote:

Free monthly map maintenance: updates downloaded straight to CoPilot Live on your phone. These include emergency road closures, updates reported by users and other improvements.

Free quarterly full map updates: The very latest maps of North America will be available as a free download every quarter through CoPilot Central 2.0 desktop software, iTunes or Android Market.

45 day map update commitment: If you notice a road or an address that you believe needs updating, you can report it directly to us. We will verify the information, add it to our maps and distribute it to everyone through an update within 45 days.

This thread is three years old, what are you asking about exactly?

"Since you theoretically need a Google account to use your Googlephone, you will most likely also have a Google Checkout account. In the process of doing the review I learned that it is also possible to install the program from an .apk file (very much like the CAB files of ye olde Windows Mobile times). So it would also be possible to preload the application and the maps onto a SD card"

you need to use a file explorer on your Android device. Some devices have one preinstalled, for others you can grab one from the Google Play thing. Astro File Explorer is pretty popular.

Using the File explorer, navigate to the place where you stored the apk (most likely your SD card) and then tap on the apk. The rest "happens by itself"...
