Why is it a challenge to know where the cameras are? Average speeds are lower than average speed limits for most routes in the UK I've found. So there's no reason to speed. I frequently get drivers pass me when I'm doing 55mph (60 limit) only to catch them up 1 mile down the road.

It's not a challenge, but it's nice to be warned for 1 of 2 reasons:

1) It serves as a reminder to the current speed limit (many roads have seemingly random speed limits - big, wide open roads that are 30 (but feel like a 40) contrasted with thin roads lines with houses a few yards away that are at 40 (but feel more like they should be a 30 or even a 20).

2) Speed cameras are only put in places where there is a history of accidents and fatalities - getting a warning for a speed camera is also a warning for paying extra care at that spot because the pedestrians have a habit of jumping into the road etc.

Ha, ha. That actually stands for "Old Man In The South". I only realised after some time it also reflects my failing memory!

Doing 30mph in a modern insulated car is nothing like the cars of old.

It's so easy to stray over 30, so a gentle reminder that there is a camera ahead does remind you to check your speed.
