|

I am thinking about updating from my Go520 and wondered about the new go live 1005. However, I am not sure about the live services. Obviously they are provided from an internet base. However, I cannot see (on the TomTom site) if the 1005 makes the connection to them, or if the connection is made via a smart phone. Can anyone enlighten me? What are the subscription costs like?
Also, I have no need for all of europe's maps (plus the costs of updates) can you get a UK ROI version of the 1005? |

The 1005 Live works the same way as the other Live devices and contains it's own sim card for direct connection to the TomTom server.
Sadly there doesn't seem to be a UK & ROI 1005, I looked into this a while back because like you I have no need for Euro maps and the cost of map updates substantially increases when they are included |

What is it particularly about the Go1005 that you like?
Maybe one of the Via's would suit?
But it does seem that at the moment there are no 5" screen models that only have UK maps.
I haven't done the maths, but MAYBE it would be worth while buying a Europe model and just biting the bullet and buying a UK map for it in a year or two when you decide the map needs updating. i wouldn't bother updating more often than that unless you find something specific in your area that's been fixed in a later version.
Oh and the LIVE services (with their own SIM card in the unit as said above) cost around £47.50 a year. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

The 1005 UK & Ireland DID exist at launch, but because of the price difference between the two units (about £20 compared to European Model) and it being at their then high-end, I think it made sense to drop it
Like you, for me I only want UK mapping, so won't buy a unit where I cannot choose UK only map updates (or pay a reasonable sum for pan-European map updates that I won't use) - so I've stuck for the time being with my 1000 but would love a larger screen
I'd be happy to buy a European model if I could then choose quarterly map updates for UK only. Why I cannot, I don't know. Doesn't make sense
I'm waiting on the new units... _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600

With the TomTom 1000 on clearance it looks like a replacement is imminent - I hope they do something about the over reflective screen |

Over 5" screen (non-reflective, but capacitive), 3D Buildings outlines and panormaic views, all would be nice
A decent processor is what what will get be to buy one _________________ TomTom Go Live 6100, 600

Hi xtraseller,
you should be able to still purchase only the UK map afterwards and install it. Then you'd be able to purchase the UK only map update subscription as well.
I know this is a very pricey variant but it is the only one I know of on how to get a UK map only and the top of the range device. But as far as I know besides the screen size there is no or nearly no difference between the 1000 and the 1005.

Hi scotty,
the first one you listed is the 1005V2. This is a newer edition of the 1005 which has been released by TT some time ago already but Amazon is way behind again. I suppose this is due to Amazon having ordered too many of the older version they wanted to sell first.
The second link refers to the old version of the 1005.
The main difference between those devices is:
The 1005V1 offers 4GB internal memory and no sd slot.
The 1005V2 offers 8GB internal memory and an sd slot.
The 1005V2 is the same as the German 1015.
You can check those devices on TT's official product page as well. There is listed on the UK page that it depends on the serial number of the device whether it has or hasn't got a SD slot.
Regards
