Specifically this bit....

When you have those individual files unzipped and you go to find them using MyTomTom, it depends which browser you use whether you are able to select them all at once or only one at a time.

Internet Explorer will only let you select one file at a time, which makes updating rather slow and tedious. Other browsers such as Firefox allow you to select all of the .ov2 files in one go, so they can be uploaded to the TomTom together.

I know Chrome also works OK.

I think you mean "still zipped" don't you?

This works really well, BUT you can only have the specified file types in the zip archive (currently .ov2, .bmp, .ogg and maybe .wav).
If you have anything else in there as well (such as Readme files or Licence text files) then the upload will fail.

I'm currently trying to get PGPSW to consider a change to the standard database download package to get this working for the speed camera database.

Is not that the same thing?

Was it a .rar file or a .zip file? If .rar, that is interesting, as the PGPSW sdtuff comes in a .zip format.

No, it's the exact opposite.

Where did he mention that it was from PGPSW?

For the life of me, I can't re-create the logic? that made me make thast statement in the first place Embarassed

He didn't but the OP indicated perhaps that's what he was trying to do but had to do it one file at a time. My statement about PGPSW data, was just that, a statement without inference.
My real cut and thrust was that if you can put a .zip file on the device and it effectively unzips it for you, is he implying that the same can be done with a .rar file?

M8TJT.

When you send something that is unzipped (as in "you can now send unzipped"), it is no longer zipped (or more properly compressed), because it has been unzipped. When something is "still zipped" (as in "I think you mean still zipped ...") it remains zipped (or compressed). Two opposite states. Like your flies (hence my previous post).

Yes, I know that. Did you not see my Embarassed above???

But presumably you have always been able to send unzipped files, so I had a problem understanding playswell's logic along with the introduction of the .rar file comment, as it makes no difference to the end file whether it has been zipped or rared once it has been unzipped (unrared). so I could not see the relevance, unless you can send zipped or rared files directly to the device without first uncompressing them. Or are we talking about an 'Expand to' scenario?

Your Embarassed was not understood Embarassed Embarassed

And yes I agree you always used to be able to use unzipped files, and I could not see the relevance. In hindsight I suspect "unzipped" was meant to be "zipped" in the post. As I understand it you can now send zipped files (.zip) direct. Maybe playswell is saying you can also send "rared" ones (.rar) as well.

That's what I thought, and was seeking clarification, not very well though.

What if you zip your .rar file? Twisted Evil

Being serious for a minute... I just tried a test upload of a couple of POI files in a .rar archive, and MyTomTom wouldn't touch it.

I suspect what could be going on here for 'playswell' is that the archive *is* a .zip, but either he's mistaken when he says it's a .rar, or his copy of WinRar has "taken over" and now wants to handle .zip files too. That sort of thing's quite common.
