After buying a Scala G4 and finding it doesnt want to play with my Nuvi 760 I now need a replacement satnav.

My budget is £250 tops.

The spec I would like in the satnav is:

Will play with my Scala G4
Has a MP3 player
Will talk to my SE Xperia Arc (the 760 wasnt very good at that either!)
Will charge on my Harley using a plug and not needing hard wiring
Can be used in my car

This may be a bit of a tall order given my small budget but I would be grateful for some guidance.

Also, I intend selling my Nuvi 760 and will welcome some guidance on its value.

Thanks Smile

And do you need waterproof/motorcycle specific solutions? If so there is only TomTom RIDER and Garmin Zumo ranges to choose from?

Hi FXRStuarty, I'm not sure if you have read my reply to your previous post.

As far as I can see, your primary problem is the Scala; Scala say that it doesn't pair with anything other than a Garmin Zumo or a TomTom Rider.

1) A brief web search suggests that both of these devices are above your £250 budget. I don't know why but for some reason manufacturers are misguided and believe that Bike riders are multi Millionaires and can afford these extortionate prices,

2) It's possible that another SatNav would pair with your Scala, but until other forum members sconfirm that their xxxx SatNav works with their Scala, Who Knows?

May I ask what is wrong with your 760? If you are reasonably happy with it, I'd suggest you keep it and ditch/sell the Scala and use a solution similar to Bernie Eccles' that I linked to in the other post. This solution is well below your 250 budget.

If you are not happy with your 760, forum member sussamb has recommended Garmin Nuvi's from the 14xx series and, after my own brief interweb searches, these appear to be a good "bang-for-your-buck" device but only for you if they have BlueTooth (I can't remember).

Please let us know your thoughts.

Thanks for the responses.

AliOnHols, I did have a look at the links you kindly posted on my other thread. I wish I had come across that before being up to my neck in Scala Crying or Very sad hey ho........

The Garmin14xx seem to be readily available but it doesnt seem to have MP3 capability.

Without doubt, bernieeccles has the answer. Pity I came across it too late. Maybe the Mods should make the information a sticky? Just a thought.

Thanks everyone.

Have a quick look at the customer review - needed to spend a further £110 to buy the charger cradle and wiring. The onboard battery life is a 'claimed' 8 hours.

edit by me.

Just in case it will affect you
