Just upgraded my TomTom on the iphone to 1.7 and while custom POI's are working they just display as a red squares on the map.

Searching on T'Internet this appears to be what originally happened until the .PNG extension rename fixed it?

I've tried as BMP again but it's the same.

The odd thing is though is that when you actually browse through the POI category when choosing your destination that logo displays fine there, it just in actual map view you get the reg square ?

I guess as long as you can still navigate to your custom POI it's not the end of the world, but a bit of a bummer if you do the Speed Cameras Update from here?

Thanks to Mike's suggestion they appear to work as proper PNG files (rather than renamed BMP files) but some still not working?

I am working with the PGPSW POIs collections and icons and ones that still don't work as true PNG are

Aldi
McDonalds
Morrisons
Pizza Hut

It seems to be something to do with "Bits Per Pixel" as the ones that work are all set at 24 bits per pixel, and the non working are 8 bits per pixel.

Currently working through all my POI icons and increasing the colour depth the 24 BPP and that should fix them all.

Oooh what a palava Laughing Out Loud Let hope the map updates are worth it Laughing Out Loud Rolling Eyes

Update: Converting all icons to 24 BPP (bits per pixel) PNG files worked

Nice one, the change to pure PNG file was a logical step though to be honest as the previous method of simply renaming a file was raqther a "cludge" - Thanks for confirming this - Mike

Is this something we should think of as an improvement for the PGPSW POI downloads?

Which 'something'? .png or 24bit.

Do 24bit PNG files work in standard TomTom devices? Ie those that normally accept BMP? If they do you could replace all icons with PNG files and save having to do multiple versions?

Although freeware such as irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com) converts them easily enough

Hi
Do I have to convert the .bmp to .png files ( working ok in TT 1.6) back to .bmp files before reconverting to True .png 24bpp using irfanview .... Want to fix the problem before upgrading to TT 1.7

The files supplied in the V1,6 download were bmp format simply renamed to .png so you need to do the following with your existing files:

1/ rename each ones file extension from .png to .bmp
2/ open each icon file in an image edit program and save as 24bit png

Use the resultant png files and the V1,7 software will display on the map and in the menu

Note, for the redlight icons you will need to save these as 24 bit bmp files prior to saving them as png files as the colour depth is only 8 bit - Mike

All POI icons should now be 24bit BMPs.

If I've missed any, just let me know. Smile
