 Posted: Mon Feb 07, 2011 1:20 pm Post subject: Downloading free POI's via POI Loader to my Garmin 255wt |

Hi first I am new to this so the problem is likely to be my doing.
I download following the steps listed and got the Zip file onto my computer OK. The POI Loader finds my Garmin device ok but says the file is empty and has no .csv or .gpx files. I have opened the zipfile and all the files have pgpsw. extentions. What can I try next?

| You must unzip ("extract") the files to an empty folder and load them from there. You can't upload the zip file itself. |

not opening, extracting. right click the file and choose something like 'decompress' or 'extract contents'

Thanks for that info. I only managed to download the UK POI's after the new advice was given but trying to download the POI's for France caused the same problem ie: the file is empty or not containing csv or gpx files. maybe I neew to change the map to France before I download. I will try later.

You might have hit another "subtlety" with POILoader here. Make sure when you load your POIs that you load ALL of them at the same time, not just the new ones, into the same folder. POILoader does not add POIs to what you have already loaded before - it replaces everything with whatever you are just loading.
In other words, if you had loaded the PGPSW cameras, and then tried loading just your french POIs, you would lose the cameras. Remember with POILoader - "EVERYTHING, EVERYTIME"

OR.... you may have hit an ongoing "issue" with the POIs page on this site.
At the bottom (next to the "Download" button), it says
| Quote: | {tickbox} Show Link
(use 'show link' if you have problems opening the file once downloaded or if it appears to be empty) |
So you may need to download your POIs again, with that option ticked.
Once you've got the POI files themselves, follow BigPerks instructions avove to load everything ALL AT ONCE to the satnav. |

after you selected 'France' as a country, did you press the 'Refresh' button? You may be trying to download categories that we simply don't have for France.
I have updated the POI download page earlier today to try and make this a little bit clearer. The country list is now in 2 columns, the 'Refresh' button is now AFTER the country list, 'Refresh' now says 'Refresh POI List' and there is a note to say that if you change the country selection then you need to refresh the POI list.

Thanks for you help. I am only trying to load the free POI's at the moment. I am waiting for my PayPal to clear for the Camera's which should be today. God help me with that one!

I do find you sometimes need to "persevere" to get those pesky POIs to download properly.
Just try all the options... Several times....On a Thursday?  |
