navigon maps

This may be a silly question BUT I have noticed that Navigon use the same .map prefix as the maps on my Medion md95233, will the Navigon maps work on the Medion. I am having trouble getting updates for the MD95233 as it is so old, the updates I find are for the GoPal only and wondered if buying Navigon maps will do the job. I am a tight Cumbrian and would prefer to pay £30-40 for new maps than £100+ for a new TomTom or something.

My initial thoughts are that

- (technical) Navigon maps are loaded via a PC utility interface to registered devices, so I doubt you can get anywhere here;

- (financial) you wouldn't get them for £30-40 anyway, outside of buying a Navigon unit with a special offer attached.

But whether it IS possible to get a 'back-door' download from eg ebay, I don't know, but I suspect that would be a dodgy option for a canny Cumbrian. I admit I also don't know whether the format would be the same, but I'd be surprised - a common format tag such as 'map' doesn't mean the internal data will be in an acceptable executable form on a particular device even if it can be read.

Still someone may be along who may be able to help more
