Just a question about the variable speed cameras on the m6,(the new permant ones) where they change to the speed of the traffic and enforce the relevant speed limit on display (the ones in the red circle) on the m6 between junction 4 and 10. I have gone though them and they seem different to the Gatsos at the side of the road I know they have a flash in them and that they are in grey boxes, thing with them being above the traffic wont the flash blind people going past them, surely the flash must be more powerful because its high up, and why is there one in each lane of the motorway ? or are some dummies
Also on the same part of the motorway at the side of the motorway every 10 meters or so there is a small camera on a cuvered fixture like on a lampost pointing down at the motorway, there only seems to be one camera on each lampost , what are these for, never seen these before ???
Thanx |

Yes, some are dummies, or at least empty housings which don't currently contain cameras. They have had a similar situation on the adjacent M42 for several years now, and the actual cameras have never been moved - it would probably involve closing the motorway!

I'm sure they aren't every 10 metres - that would be very expensive! These are probably just used for traffic monitoring - nothing to worry about. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

These are CCTV cameras that cover the section where there's hard shoulder running. The operators can see all the hard shoulder without having to move cameras around so can close the HS (or not open it) when there's a breakdown on it. 10m is a bit exaggerated - probably nearer every 50m. _________________ Gerry

Afree - they are traffic monitoring / breakdown cameras. GerryC wrote: | ........10m is a bit exaggerated - probably nearer every 50m. | I hope it doesn't mean that he is seeing them 5 x more quickly |
