|
|
I recently downloaded and installed the Western Europe map on to my TomTom XL. The resulting postcode truncation led me to believe there was something wrong with the map, so I reverted to the UK & Ireland map.
Now I've found out and corrected the cause of the truncation, I'd like to restore the Western Europe map. Unfortunately TomTom Home is not 'seeing' it on my computer, even though the complete zip file is present, all 900+ Kb of it.
How do I this without messing up the device?
Sorry if this a well-worn question. I've looked in the FAQs and through the recent forum entries.
TIA,
Roger (using TomTom Home under Win 7 32-bit) |

You can install a map without using Home. This link explains how. _________________ David |

That was quick! Thanks, David.
I assume I'll first have to delete the UK & Ireland folder from the device to make enough room on it.

Well, make sure you have it backed up on your computer, of course. Then you'll have to delete the folder on your unit. Since the other map is different, it won't simply overwrite the existing map.
By the way, when you say that Home doesn't 'see' the map, are you looking at Manage my Unit--Computer or by Add maps? _________________ David |

It was the latter, as I recall. I hadn't looked for a week or two, so can't be sure.
All is in process, so I'll report when it's done.
Thanks again,
Roger

All looks fine. I've just plotted a test route from Cirencester to Uppsala, which the XL has produced with no problems.
Cheers,

I've subsequently copied over my UK POIs to the "Western Europe" directory and my UK safety cameras files. I can see that the POIs work but won't know about the latter until I'm on the road again.

Prepare Route A-B (to go past a camera or two)
When it's finished
Details
Demo (best keep it down to 200% speed)
That'll make the cameras warn if you've installed them OK. And you do it on the sofa with your feet up whilst footie's on the telly. TTFN - I'm off top watch the footie without a demo going. _________________ Dennis

That's crafty! I'll try it on a couple of routes later.
Thanks,
