|
|
Last night I decided to try the Voice Input on my 550 with expectedly poor results, 'Navigate to an address' came back with every command in its repertoire before finally returning the correct one, but I did manage to complete an address eventually – I doubt I’ll be doing it again though, it’s a pity it doesn’t support Post Code voice input, that would be much easier
Having decided that addresses were going to be too problematic I tried 'Navigate to a Favourite' which thankfully the 550 managed to understand slightly quicker. I went on to select a Favourite which the TomTom repeated back to me & which I confirmed - great I thought, sorted, until I realised that instead of being routed 15 miles North I was being sent 20 miles East!!!. Thinking I must have made a mistake I repeat the whole process with the same result & no matter how many times I did it the result was still the same. On further investigation I found that I was actually being routed to the address of the Favourite immediately prior the one I had selected. I’ll try it again later to see if it happens with the others.

To save you the time testing this any further, what you have found is 100% correct and describes exactly how the device works - I am not saying its correct (it clearly isn't) but this is a known bug thats been around for quite a while now.
Easy answer is don't use the ASR as its too hit and miss to be anything like reliable in use - I only use it now and again to give the wife and kids something to laugh at in the car! - Mike |

Good old TomTom
Thanks Mike, I would've investigated further purely out of interest but you've saved me the time & trouble.
To be honest, after my brief foray into the world of TomTom Voice Recognition, I definitely won't be making much use of it, by the time I'd got the 550 to understand what I was talking about I was nearly there |
