Ok I understand, in regards to your link if I copy and past the lines from the link to the sys txt will that change the speed warning distances automatically? or do I need to do something else?
Essentially, yes, but if you just copy the line above you will get the default settings, you would need to modify it to change the distances. Do you really need to change them, the default speed dependent settings seem to work quite well without modification.

Of course, Linknet is correct in what he says above, but for what it's worth, I use the following settings as I prefer being warned rather further than the default settings, especially for mobile cams.
I'm a little confused as to what the original default settings actually are. You're presumably quoting these as default:
warn_distances=110:1000,80:800,60:500,40:300
Whereas I found these on other websites:
warn_distances=130:450,110:350,90:300,60:200,40:100
I've no idea which of these are the defaults or if neither of these are the actual default settings. Any thoughts ? And how are they interpreted ? Are we assuming that for say 130:450 if your speed is greater than 130kph then you will be warned 450m in advance ? If so what happens below 40:100 in that series ?

Mine alerts me at about 300 yards (I don't do this foreign stuff) at 30-40MPH and about 800yd at over 50 et.al. I don't know what happens under 40?? But I'll run a few sims later on my PDA and try to find out a bit more about mine and the defaults and report back here. I have to get a nastie off my computer first though.

Experiment to find what speed/distance iGO8 alerts for different settings in SYS.TXT
Method:
Find a straight road (50.88316,0.21139)
Set up the GPSGate simulator to track along this road to act as the GPS input to iGO.
Set up iGO 8 to metric Km/m.
Set up SYS.TXT to be (To cut a much longer story short)
I don't know the max number of speed:distance combinations that are allowed, but the seven that I have entered all work and should be enough for most people.
Set the GPSGate speeds to different settings and establish the distance that the alert pops up for the various speeds.
Summary of Results:
Up to 29KPH the warnings were at 200m
Up to 49KPH the warnings were at 300m
Et. Al until
up to 129KPH the warnings were at 1100m
At any speed over 129KPH the warnings were at 1300m
At any speed over 149KPH the warnings were still at 1300m
(the highest speed I tested was 200KPH)
The actual alert distances on the display were generally about 10m less than that indicated by the settings above, but sometimes they were spot on. I put this slight variance down to a delay between iGO detecting the cam and the actual cam distance at the time the alert is displayed.
It seems like the "speedcam_max_lookahead=1200" parameter does not do what it sounds like it should do, as I was getting the 1300m alerts OK???????
I'm going to switch iGO to MPH next to see what happens to the readout. I know that the speeds in SYS.TXT will still be in KPH but am interested in at what distance (in yards) the alert occurs. Trouble with interpreting the longer distances is that they are given in decimal fractions of a mile

Excellent work, I've done similar tests myself for other reasons and I know how time consuming and tedious it is. Nevertheless, now that you have it all set up is there any chance of commenting out the "warn_distances" line in sys.txt and determining the iGO8 default settings.

Defaults seem to be.
Up to 39KPH the warnings were at 300m
Up to 59KPH the warnings were at 500m
Up to 79KPH the warnings were at 800m
Over 80KPH the warnings were at 1000m
so it seems that the defaults are

Thanks for the results. They make a lot more sense than the values I posted previously and generally agree with the warnings given whilst driving. They work out at approximately a 30 seconds prior warning which seems about right.
