Apart from generally not being loud enough, it's noticeable that the street names are even quieter than the normal directions. I'm forever attempting to increase the volume, even though I know it's on maximum.
I also laugh at the pronunciations of some street names, usually it's because the stress is on the wrong part.

"Bristol Road" is pronounced "Bristle Road"...
and near to me is "Abbots Leigh Road", pronounced "Abbotsleh road".
No biggie, I find it funny.


Anyway... do the users in the US get a US accent on their voice? Do teh voices have names to tell them apart?

Yeah, I posted on the volume of the street names as well. Strangely I could have sworn I turned it off but it was still telling me when I used the satnav today. Must check that again tomorrow as it's just annoying now (was amusing that I had no idea what it was saying for the first hundred miles).

EDIT: Double-checked it driving to work today. Changing the setting does stop the streetname announcements. Must have not saved previous change to settings.

The sounds are machine generated.
While the common parts can be fine tuned, street names get generated on-the-fly depending on your route - so sometimes the machine produces amusing results.

Regarding the volume - we try to optimise to suit all the different devices. It's a known issue and we continue to look into it.

Regarding US users - when we have a setting for US English available then the sound prompts will be read using a US English accent. JUst like we had for V4.5
