I want the least expensive method of just gathering co-ordinates of certain sites and locations world wide - I don't need mapping.

It would seem that some add on for the phone (I have a Plam Treo 500 at present) would be the most likely solution. I have been looking at handheld hiker type gps devices but they don't seem to do what I want and are restricted by mapping.

Basically I just want to log co-ordinates of certain remote sites for a custom POI database I am building and be able to return to those co-ordinates in the future.

I have a Tom Tom 920 in the car but I doesn't seem to be very accurate in these circumstances.

Thanks in advance

As you have a TomTom 920, have a look at the different methods that Andy_P describes here.

I use Method 3b - Quickmenu Map Corrections. Thumbs Up

Once you have displayed the location in Map Corrections, you can either make a note of the Longitude and Latitude, or exit and then browse map - where you'll be taken to the exact location and then manually add a POI there. It sounds long winded, but after a few goes it becomes second nature.

Regards,

If you just want co-ordinates and the ability to log where you have been to review these later, I use GPS Speed Sentry http://www.tchartdev.com/

It also has a compass, and shows the altitude too, perfect for hiking!

Its `one of` the best things on my phone!
