|
|
RouteBuddy have announced their entry into the outdoor GPS market with the availability of their RouteBuddy Atlas and Digital USA Topographic Maps for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch.
It allows access to maps at any location with no associated data charges and is available for free from the iTunes App Store.
The software utilises the iPhone's GPS to show your current position and allows you to save your recorded tracks onto your PC or Mac. They say that a later addition to the range will offer in-app map downloads and extra features that exist in a dedicated SatNav.
The product is billed as the first digital iPhone app to offer high resolution and detailed topographic maps that cover large areas and whole US states. RouteBuddy are also currently developing UK Ordnance Survey maps for iPhone use.
OpenCycleMap and OpenStreetMap are also usable from the RouteBuddy Atlas platform where connections allow. _________________ Robert Brady |

There is already one o/s map for iphone but due to the demand on the data connection it's performance is poor, especially when used outside where it's needed. I will be waiting patiently for the uk version! _________________ Dom

As the app has an 'online map store' page, I presume you have to buy the maps. _________________ Alan - iPhone 5 64GB, with CamerAlert, TomTom Europe & CoPilot |

At nearly £60 for the Lake District at 25K scale its competitive bearing in mind the level of detail you get with the 25K maps. The map tiles seem to be priced at £17:38 each, not tried this (yet) - Mike |
