For information there have been 400 submissions this year (2009) already!! We now stand at more than 168,000 locations.

Can I suggest that there are around 800 POIs which need removing from the database? The two categories, Woolworths and MFI (both under Shopping - Other), are probably surplus to requirements now!
I don't have the final word on it, but the locations will still exist, probably, but under another name. In that case it's easier for us (me) to just do a Change (of details) as it happens.

Just a thought.

I can understand what you are saying, but my guess is that in the current financial climate, many of these stores will stand empty for some time to come! Even when they do get taken over by someone else, will each one get reported by PGPSW contributors?

I don't know whether you are able to do bulk changes easily (if, for instance, many or all of the Woolworths stores get taken over by the same company), but is this situation really likely?

I don't know whether the current position will be confusing to anyone (has anyone missed the news that Woolworths & MFI no longer exist, and tried to download these POIs recently?!), but perhaps a compromise solution is to combine them into one sub-category (or even category) with a name and icon that indicates that these places are no more. "Shopping - Closed Down" anyone?

some MFI seem to be still operating, e.g. Hemel Hempstead. Odd.

I believe they are being operated by the Administrators to sell off the last off the stock. It's often advertised on the radio.... Same as they did with Woolworths...

Slightly off-topic and just out of interest...

why do Bookshops have their own seperate category and not in with other shops?

Probably because they
a) warranted a category of their own
b) to minimise the sub categories in shopping and thus avoid downloading problems due to the 22 sub categories file download probs
c) most of them were submitted as single data files
d) I cannot see a problem in fact IMHO i would think some of the shopping sub categories could be split.

Would the category "Shopping - Bookshops" have been more appropriate to keep these shops grouped together with the other shops?

The problem being, you would then have Sub-Subcategories for The Works, Ottakers, Waterstones, etc. Smile

If I were seeking the nearest bookshops, or ones en route, I don't think I'd mind which chains the TT found or which independents, if the description said which they were.

Or am I missing something?

Afraiid I disagree, some are Cutprice Bookshops and some normal retailers, and in same way I also have preferences for some supermarkets.

Sorry, you missed my point, so I obviously didn't explain it very well. Embarassed

Rather than the main category being "Bookshops" which appears at the top of the list on the screen, I was sugesting that you change the title of the main category to "Shopping - bookshops" so that it would appear with the three other "Shopping - ..." categories near the bottom of the list. The sub categories would remain as they are now.

In this way people trying to load all the shop categories onto their device would notice the bookshops when they selected the other shops.

Gotcha. I see where you're coming from now.

I think the layout, in the beginning, was different. There was only one Shopping Category. This became unwieldy and so was split into 3 new Shopping Categories. As Bookshops already was in a different category on it's own, it was probably overlooked.

I will ask the question to see if it is feasible, and thought desirable, to make the necessary changes.
