On a recent visit to Tenerife I attempted to use TomTom running on my TyTN II (with interval GPS receiver) for navigating but encountered a strange problem. The satellite location fix was received perfectly but the heading appeared to be shifted about 90 degrees, e.g. reporting east when moving north. This confused TomTom no end, resulting in it attempting to snap to every minor road being passed and the display showing roads being passed rather than the road ahead.

Running Google Maps Mobile confirmed that the heading was also wrong on this application therefore I assume the problem lies with the GPS receiver rather than TomTom.

Does anyone know what might have caused this? If I visit this year I will try and use an external receiver via bluetooth to see if this performs better.

Thanks,
Simon

I've been to La Palma and Fuerteventure with Tomtom on a HP IPaq with internal Sirf chip. I had no problem with the headings (nor with Memory-map on the same unit) but Tomtom had an annoying habit of directing me to drive up steps and through private gardens - even with the latest maps.
