I have an iPaq running TomTom3 yes I know its old but up until recently it worked fine. I guess the TomTom gps receiver is about 5 or 6 years old, it was bought with TomTom2 !!!!!!
Anyway it is now taking upto 15mins to get a satellite fix, does anyone know a fix or is it finally time to get a new gps?

Cheers

Is it the original TT MKI Bluetooth GPS, like this?

It's possible that the internal capacitor that retains the Almanac and Ephemeris data has expired resulting in what is effectively a Cold Start Fix every time you use it.

If it is the MKI unit then the best advice is to junk it and replace with a newer unit.

Its a very early square shaped wired receiver. I have just opened it up and found a 3v Lithium battery. So I think as you say that may be the problem. Now all I have to do is find a new battery and install it!!!!!

Cheers.

Ah that'll be this fella or the earlier black model:

Made by Leadtek. The 3V battery retains the Almanac and Ephemeris data so replacing should resolve your issue. On the BT models it's a capacitor and not user replaceable.

Cheers, it looks exactly like the silver one. I have found out the battery is a MS614. So now I just have to find one.
Cheers for the help.

Finally got hold of a battery for £5.50 delivered so not too bad. Soldered it in yesterday, very small surface mount solder pads but managed it with out any damage.
It seems to be working as it used to do Very Happy so all is well. I can stick to my trusty pda and TomTom for a while longer. Very Happy
Thanks Darren.
