Spoke to Navman UK today - have a s100 purchased from Halfordsd - the screens very touch sensitive and hard to9 scroll without your finger accidentally selecting a menu option beneath it.
S300 will be available in Jan 09 - with bluetooth and European mapping. A bug fix for the sensitivity scrolling may come out in 4 months.... unit very difficult to operate until then - unless Navman get loads of complaints..
S100 mapping is great, much preferred to Navteq and garmin map colours, scrolling is a big issue though..

Oh great Exclamation So, Navman got their timing right then..they launch one of their new models immediately after Christmas. Good marketing.

On the other hand it might be a deliberate move if they don't have any confidence in the new model being able to healthily compete with the likes of TomTom and Garmin during the Xmas rush. You often see this with DVD companies who specialise in classic TV releases: they go quiet during December because they know they can't compete with blockbuster movie releases over the festive period.

And if NavMan have no confidence in their product, then neither should you.

Cheers,

Dave

I got the new S100T yesterday, played with it for 20 mins, hate it! would rather carry on using my S90i any day.

Menus are terrible and that's putting it politely!

It had trouble finding sat's and kept coming up " no sat signal" I was in my bedroom with large window, never had this problem with my S90i tho.

Have always had Navman products but Me thinking of the new Tom Tom LIVE units now, expensive but read good.

Have you tried driving with it?

To be honest, no I didn't try driving with it, I made up my mind not to keep it as soon as I started using the "glide" menu system, it really didn't work, when you tried to glide up the menus, if you didn't get it perfectly right, it would jump to a menu that was not intended.

It was bad enough trying to opperate it while in the bedroom with it in your hand, god knows what it would be like while trying to use it when in the car.

That alone put me right off, shame really because I have always had Navman products, all the way from the Pin 100 and up but this new sat nav from Navman has got me looking at other makes like Tom Tom.

Will carry on using my S90i at the moment, even tho it keeps restarting for no reason, it will probably work better if I removed the only Poi's that I use, which is LPG gas stations, which is not a lot to ask a unit to do.

Ah well, I will have to take the jump and try another make I think, don't want to, but navman is forcing me too :-(

As a Navman user since the icn630, and someone who purchases or tries out most major brands of satnav, when my Navman S100t (from Halfords) arrived around 2 weeks ago, while impressed with build, freshness of the mapping, etc. was a little hesitant with the user interface - fresh and visually appealing yes, but was it practical and simple (something Navman was renound for)

Two weeks or so in and the answer is YES - its great

Needs a few tweek (re-ordering of multipoint stops), and a better manual to explain it all - but play around with it and it really is a suprisingly excellent interface with lots of features that you dont expect to find

And even the glide-touch becomes a joy to use

Believe me, give it a year or so and all navigation interfaces will be based "around" this type - just give yourself some practice with it, as its interface is completely new to GPS (I'm now docking menus, finding POIs en-route, etc. in an instant)

Are any of you S100 owners/users able to identify if the problem of the 12,000 POI limit has been overcome with the new unit? If so, is the unit able to take, for example, the pocketgpsworld UK speed zone camera database without problem? Thanks.

Sorry haven't tried, as I find the improved database included with the unit is more that suitable for my needs

There doesn't seem to be a mention of the limit in the manual, which can be viewed or downloaded from the Navman website, if you wish to check this out yourself

As the software is a re-write, I would assume it would be fine, as one of its defining features is its live POI database feature (via forthcoming Bluetooth models, already available in Austrialia), and online with the S100/T via Navdesk 2009. But that is just a guess!!!

Is that link what you intended? Seems to be broken.

Portman - thanks for the updated link in your PM. You have a PM from me.

Briefly, the Navman discount is not quite what it seems when you compare the specs against the Halfords S100T price. Correct me if I am wrong ;-)

And the TMC on the S100 seems to have quite an improved reception (and operation) compared to my S90i - so would recommend the Halfords deal over and above any Navman direct deal on the S100 excl TMC

I am now on my 5th Navman (last one a very stable ICN720/T1), and due to the maps of TomTom and Garmin look like my 6 year old daughter has drawn them, was really looking forward to last Tuesday as going to Halfords to buy the S100T, and was well imprest by the look and feel of the unit, and the glide menu's worked well once the amount of pressure needed to scroll was sorted but disapointment at not been able to change the look of the maps. As someone who does not move the car without the Navman in place, by the end of the day, was heading back to halfords to give it back... No active mount is a major bind and no traffic if not plugged in, and with the VW Passatt having a raked screen, found putting in the cradle clumsy and knuckle marks over the screen, it even fell out 3 times as not got it in right. Ended up with a S80D/T2 and happy. I will wait for the S300 to come and brodit to make an active mount I think.
