Now I know my Navman Pin 100 / Mio 168 is a bit long in the tooth, as is the SmartSt maps for Aus,they're also no longer supported either , so I shelled out and bought a copy of Garmin mobile XT off of ebay
Program loads OK but when it gets to asking where the GPS device is ?
I selected "Other GPS device" and it recognises the Port (2) where the inbuilt GPS aerial is.
I selected COM port 2 and baud rate 4800 but the software just cycles saying the GPS device cannot be found ?

As soon as I start SmartSt, it locks on to 5 satellites, so I don't think it's a hardware problem.

The big question is...........How do I get Garmin software to recognise the inbuilt GPS aerial ??

The Mio 168 runs pocket pc software, I have disabled the Navman software in "running programs" - do I have to uninstall completely ?

Can any of you help ?

On what medium did your Garmin XT software come? It could be that the software is only looking for a Garmin GPS, as that is how Garmin used to lock down their software. With later versions supplied on official SD cards, I understand that any GPS could be used, as the protection was on the SD card itself.

Certainly the Mobile XT versions I have used would only work with the Garmin GPS10 Bluetooth I have. It wouldn't work with the TomTom or Garmin receivers I also own.

Is this the case, even if it is giving the option of selecting a GPS device port to use ?

Sorry, I forgot to mention, Software was supplied on a CD - I had to copy this onto an SD card and then submit PDA model & SD card number - received two files which I then had to copy to the Garmin folder on the card.
All transferring of files done with a card reader/ writer direct to the SD card so as not to corrupt files.

It seems so close to working & yet so far Rolling Eyes

Failing this mapping working... Does any one have any recommendations for the Mio 168 up to date Australian maps ?

I know it's old, but apart from maps being aged there is nothing wrong with it

Where did you buy this? To whom did you submit the details. It sounds highly unusual and not the standard process for legitimate Garmin software?

To whom did you have to submit the PDA model and SD card number?

Personally I'd avoid buying any software from eBay, even shrink-wrapped stuff. My own opinion is that you are now in possession of pirated software.

Well you've bought pirate software so yes you have been. You could get a refund if you lodge a claim with eBay. I'd also suggest that link you have just supplied is for pirate software too as the software (iGO) isn't free ever.

Might I suggest you buy a legitimate retail package? That way you'll get some support as neither the manufacturer nor we will assist with pirated software. I'll notify the rights holder about that seller.

You could get a refund if you lodge a claim with eBay.

Thank you guys for your time

I suppose if it looks too good to be true eh ?

In the interest of not promoting pirated software, I have edited my previous post to remove the link.

Have you any recommendations for software suitable for the mio 168 ?

TomTom Navigator 6 works quite well on the mio as does IGO8 and Australia maps are available aswell. a high speed card also helps, 2gb is very usefull. as with all teleatlas maps tho they maybe a bit dated.

Com port 8 is what you probably will find it on. My PiN570 uses 8.

I cant stand bloody TomTom anymore.
SmartST is long in the tooth but it gets me where I want to be Very Happy
