It appears to - in that elevations were still displayed when I replaced the sample OS25 map qed file with the one for OS50 maps and renamed. I imagine that if the OS25 sections are covered in the OS50 file it should work.

What's the problem?

Yes, just check the "map/elevation data" menu to see what's being used.

What's wrong with the elevation data supplied with the 1:25k map?

Ah, I wasn't aware there was a cheaper 1:25 map option? Do you have any references as I can't see a two tier offering on MM's web-site?

There are Standard and Premium versions for 1:50k. The Premium differs from standard in having aerial photography supplied in addition to the standard map data on the DVD.

Hi,

Somewhat surprisingly, the elevation data supplied with the 1:25k maps appears to be identical to that for the 1:50k, even though the former cost more than ten times as much per given area (and have twice as many contour lines).

Incidentally, the elevation data is not in the form of contour "vectors", but "spot heights" on a 50 metre grid. MM then interpolates intermediate values, so there can be some discrepancies between heights displayed and the contour lines or peak heights shown on the map (particularly in areas where there are large changes in the gradient of the land across a grid square).

Cheers, Alan.

Guessing wildly; but I think that you might find that the height data originates from the OS LandForm Profile dataset, which is a 1:10,000 digital terrain model. The 1:50k and 1:25k maps are both rasters and therefore contain no inherant digital data.
