The following files seem superfluous:
cspeech_***.dat - seem to be language files so all we need is cspeech_GBR.dat

Presumably the ****ov2.dct and .ver files are the new icons and sound files? Are they only for TT's camera database? My old .bmp and .ogg files seem to work OK

If you delete the CSpeech files you might find the Auto Speech recognition no longer works, at the very least you will need the GBR and IRL files if using the UK & ROI map or the speech recognition will be greyed out.
ov2.dct is the activation file for the TomTom Safety Cameras, the .ver file lets you knw the version installed if you open it using notepad or word pad on the PC - Mike

Thanks, Mike. I have deleted all except GBR and it still offers voice recognition on my Western Europe Map - but only for GB. Doubt if I will use it anyway - especially with a Scottish accent!

But what exactly was the purpose of deleting them?
They aren't that big, are you that short of memory space?
What model are you using?

They are huge, you can save over 200MB by deleting the unwanted ones which could well be the difference between being able to fit the Western and Central Europe map on a 2GB card or needing a 4GB.

Yes, it was to free up space - using internal on a 720. About to switch to a 4gb card though (I think)

You don't "switch" to a card it is used in addition to the built in storage, leave the map internal and put music and any additional maps on the card, music files must be placed in a folder named "mp3" (without the "") - Mike

Right - so it is different from the One XL, which uses internal or card (not and)

Correct the x20 and newer Go devices allow you to share the built in memory with that available on a removable memory card, as long as the files are put in to correctly named folders on the memory card. This is something the One devices cannot do at all.

If all you want is a huge music store on the SD card consider an SDHC 8GB or even 16GB capacity card, they are fine for Music and pictures but of little use for maps, the TT device needs to write to any map folder be it located on the Flash Internal memory or external SD card, it can only write to cards up to and including 4GB (SDHC type included) Cards.
Music, Pictures and video are a read only file so the device can cope with much larger capacity (Theoretically 32GB should work if you really need that much)

I use an 8GB SDHC manufactured by Peak (Class 6 speed) which works great for music in both the 720 and 930.

Simple rule if you want to put maps on the card stick to 4GB SD or SDHC, if all you want is mp3, pictures and video go for the 8 or 16GB cards, but if you do go with a card larger than 4GB you will have to install the files to the card directly from the PC via a seperate card reader - Mike
