PS - Detectors do NOT prevent the police from doing their job.

A. Fixed cameras are not manned by the police, so detecting them does nothing preventative to police operators.

B. By the time a detector detects a mobile speed trap, the trap has already been sprung and the vehicle has been nicked.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you, but I find most of it perfectly believable. You've undoubtedly seen the accusations of racism in the press about a year ago after reports were released showing that police are more likely to stop young black males than white old ladies.

I was really referring to being pulled over after having been followed by the police while speeding.

...are you saying that an old lady is more likely to commit a crime?

Statistics can be manipulated to show what you want them to show, hence the old saying "lies, damned lies and statistics"

Ah so police officers should target suspects by quota should they, 1 OAP, 1 Youngster, 1 each of black, white, brown etc, utter rubbish.

Back when I was on the beat SUS law was still in force along with Judges Rules. I stopped anyone whom I thought suspicious. Because most street crime was committed by young juvenile males the vast majority of my stops were of persons in that demographic so was I ageist? Yes there was racism as there is in every walk of life, anyone who suggest otherwise has their head on the sand but using stats such as the proportion of black mails stopped is a red herring.

Anyway this is way OT but I needed to set that record straight.

I am in the silver audi with pgpsw sticker demographic, which is similar to the almost audi silver white van with sticker demographic. It's not that I know that plod is out there to pounce on me, I just haven't seen them yet!

I've just sent some to my ex-colleagues, I've asked them to slap one in the back of one of the cars and take a pic Wink

That just made me chuckle. It'll show the non believers that plod does have a sense of humour. Be sure to post it on the news.

And we'll have to persuade Falkirk to get one in the window of an Airbus or whatever type he's doing his conversion on!
