Quote: | I've just added a Wireless router to my home setup, so I guess I now have two firewalls running, a hardware one in the router itself (Netgear WNR834B) and the normal Windows XP one.
Should I disable the Windows one? And if so, how do I stop Windows constantly bleating at me about it when I do? |
I would leave the Windows FW on.
The hardware one will protect you again external attack but the Windows one will alert you to outgoing connections without the OTT performace you get from NIS, ZA et al...
4 years hardware firewall and Windows Firewall and no problems.... |

My 39 day old 920T says I have the latest map, v710. But when I look on the maps for sale, there's a new one v715 available for money.
My older 720 says your v710 map is too old for map guarantee, you're not entitled to it, put yer 'and in yer pocket.
Did anybody get anywhere with this? _________________ Dennis

With my GO 710 connected to Home everything works OK exept when i go to TOOLS/ Use latest map gaurantee where it tells me TT servers down, try later or contact customer services. So i don't know if it will say i have latest maps or not.Although i can buy the latest maps if i want but will be waiting a few weeks first. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

I have just been looking at latest map gaurantee in TT at THIS PAGE and it says that latest map gaurantee only works on the x20, oneXL and one 3rd edition. Has this always been the case as i thought the x10 models got it aswell. If this is the case there is no need for me to even try. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

i would not be 100% sure about that, they may only list current for sale models in that list, so it may well have been available on the 710 _________________ TomTom 720 with Remote

I see what you are saying. Never thought of it like that. I suppose they could make that a bit clearer but this is TT i suppose. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

well the reason i read it like that was because it said something like "Latest Guarantee is available on these models" .... which immediately makes me think in the mind set of a new customer looking to choose which model to buy, which immediately removed the 710 from the equation.
but yeah, i am beginning to realise nothing is ever straight forward with TomTom ... .case in example, is the "would you like to fill out the customer service satisfaction survey" following your resent dealings with TomTom support email i got today..... anwser via email from me "not freaking likely until they answer my dam question" _________________ TomTom 720 with Remote

TT Home just alerted me to the fact that a new map was available and downloaded V715.1689 without any problems. Somewhat surprised, not least because of problems experienced by others on this thread but also because I am just over my 30 day period of grace. |

Also worked on the One LE or One Second Edition (same model, different name). I guess they just list current models on their site. |

I think I messed up. I have never activated my "Latest Map Guarantee" for my TT One 3rd. I just found the paper so I have it. I have had the unit since the beginning of Dec.
I am curious if they really know I have had this for 30 days. I never registered it but I would assume that every time I connect with Home they are sending my serial number.
Has anyone activated after the 30 days? |

Never mind asking the question, Click the button with one hand, whilst crossing the fingers of the other. Your question has already been answered several times here. There are two answers ...
1. YES
2. NO
You discover which answer applies to you when you click the button!!
How can you be in Home without being registered? How can Home be sending information unless you are logged in (effectively, registered)? Home "registers" without you choosing to do so, these days - It picks up the device identity from the device when it's connected and locks it to the email address which you use to connect with it - you no longer go to the TomTom website to register a device. _________________ Dennis

I'm not clear about this. How many map updates can you download in the 30 day period? It is poorly worded.

You can check as many times as you like within 30 days from the date you first use your TomTom device. |

On the TomTom website here it says:
Quote: | TomTom provides you with the latest map pre-installed on your new device. On top of that, if a newer map is available within 30 days from when you start using your device, you are entitled to one free map download. |
So you can check as many times as you like, but only download one map! _________________ Anita

That is totally misleading and contradicts what it says in the box. It makes no mention of 'only once' in the leaflet.
They need to change the wording to make it much clearer. Needless to say I'm totally hacked off with them now. |
