Hi there, after finally getting my Tomtom back, I note with Dismay that the system is still telling me there are permament 40-56min delays at the roadworks on these two roads, when in fact the delays are really just a drop to 50MPH, certainly for the M42 (S) where the M6(toll) joins it, has been displaying this ridiculous delay for at least a month. Whilst i have been on the M69 also where there is a contra flow, but definitely not a 1hr delay on it, as suggested by the TMC.

Can we get these fixed?!
Cheers

This is a TT error, not ITIS

Which they don't seem to be in any particular hurry to fix as they have been aware of it since November, well before the release of the 920T which also has the same problem.

I wish they would too, but unfortunately, they have no rights to broadcast on the FM frequencies, so are not allowed to Crying or Very sad

But, TM already broadcast using roadside transmitters, so a GPS (tuned into the correct frequency) ought to be able to utilise such reliable transmitters.

If the system works with the 'old' TrafficMaster Freeway, I can't see why it wouldn't work on a modern GPS - the Freeway has been working since long before most people had even heard of GPS.

This would at least alleviate the problem of unreliable reception.

I ought to clarify a few misconceptions here. TM use the pager network but only for their own service. Their collaboration with RAC to provide a TMC service does not use this network.

Even if it did, a GPS cannot be 'tuned' to receive the signal. It is wholly designed and intended for reception of GPS signals at about 1575MHz. They cannot be retuned to receive signals on the 400MHz frequency that the pager network used.

I was trying to say it would be nice if they could (in an ideal world).

It is understood that some units receive iTIS TMC information and others receive TrafficMaster TMC data although, in the real world, reception of the FM signal is a real problem for many.

At least the theory of roadside transmitters is good for reliable reception rather than a transmitter zillions of miles away in the middle of nowhere.

Although, unfortunatly, the ideal and real worlds rarely meet and life's a compromise

Ah ok Embarassed the bigger issue is that whilst it's technically feasible, it'd only be a solution here in the UK and so no manufacturer would deem the investment worthwhile Crying or Very sad

Darren

Whilst this subject is live, would it be possible to use your TT contacts to attempt to get some sort of response from them regarding the issue with the interpretation of TMC data with the latest version of 7x?

I will try, I have been out of the TMC loop a little (it's nigh on impossible to keep up to date on every issue!) but I shall approach tomTom for a comment on this subject.

Just wondering if the legal problem that was holding up the transmission of the TMC data had been resolved yet?
Cheers

Reading all these posts. I get the impression that TMC is far from ideal.

I'm looking at purchase of TMC for TomTom 720 in my future purchase list but seeing as most of my business mileage is in rented vehicles and I won't have any choice but to use the "out of the box" TMC antenna.... Doeas anyone think it's worth splashing out the cash for it ???

Darren

Did you get a response from TomTom? Do they admit to the problem?
