I noticed that memory map was very slow sending maps to the SD memory card on my IPAQ using the usb cable. I timed how long it took to send a visible portion of a map that was 27mb to the pda. It took about 14 minutes using the PDA menu in Memory Map.

But what suprised me, and I think a lot of you would like to know is that I have found a considerably quicker way of doing it. Using Memory Map 4.2.1, I sent the same 27mb visible map to my hard drive first (which took about a second) and then copied that to my SD card on the IPAQ (using the same usb cable) by dragging a dropping using activesync. This took just over 5 mins, more than twice as fast as using the send option in Memory Map. I checked that the map was still readable on my pda, which it was.

Does anyone know why memory map is so slow at sending maps compared to "drag and dropping" the maps using the "explore" in activesync?

Looks like MemoryMap have implemented their own, sub-optimal file copying routine.

There is an even quicker way to copy maps - from your PC directly to the SD card (via a card reader). This should copy the file in under a minute...

I do like the improvement in the latest version in being able to send the map directly to the card reader. It beats the old way of "catching" it in your temporary folders.
