|
|
I would like to know the answer to a few questions
1) can i listen to the mp3's without any guidance or alerts but still watch the route (so non Interrupted music) using the FM transmitter
2)as above but with just alerts (speed cams)
3)go handsfree using FM transmision cus the volume is so quiet from unit
4)I know how to normalize and increase volume of MP3's but i don't see any option to set volume of anouncements and the mp3's independently ....will this be an option (or is it and i'm missing something)
5)As above but to be able to keep the music playing whilst announcements are made
6)Do you think any of my questions should be made available as a feature in a future release |

1. only by disabling voice as in #2 and removing alert sounds
2.yes - by preferences/voice preferences/disable voice
3. Don't know
4.Doesn't seem to be
5 Only by using a Bluetooth speaker
6. Yes
I'd add that the TTS voices are louder than the "real" ones, the quieter alert sounds are too quiet when using a TTS voice, and the constant muting of music on FM is really annoying and totally unnecessary (after all, we listen to the normal radio at the same time).
So... I would sum it up as two requests:
1. We need seperate volume controls for:
a. voice,
b. alert sounds,
c. mp3/audio
d. handsfree calls
preferably all together on a "Volume" preferences page
and then an "overall" volume accessible by tapping the main screen as we do now.
2. We need a simple preferences option: "Do you want the navigation instructions/alerts to mute the music" Yes/No?
We know this is possible because it can be set if you use a bluetooth speaker. It REALLY needs to work on FM too, but I don't see why, for simplicity, it can't be set for ANY output.
Make sense?
I was going to present this to TomTom as a suggestion/request, but lets see if we can thrash out an agreed stance first, so we can all ask together. |

I am glad I pressed Search before I posted!
This is my one and only gripe with the TomTom (now that TMC works). I want to listen to MP3s uninterrupted by the route. This is especially true as Traffic only works if you enter a route (so you enter the route only for traffic reasons, not because you need to be told.)
The other thing is why you cannot hear the phone through the line out. Daft. You struggle to listen to the tinny little speaker, yet you know that you can blast out Wagner at any volume.
Surprisingly poor design features in an otherwise excellent bit of kit.
I totally endorse the wish list above. _________________ Timothy Nathan

Just to complete the bunch ...
3) Hands free via FM. No you can't (the manual says "Hands free can only use the external speaker" - that would be FM - and elsewhere it says "Hands free can only use the internal speaker" - this latter is the correct one). _________________ Dennis

1) Yes. You just turn off sound (in preferences or the Quick menu) and then start playing in the TomTom jukebox. Don't do this in the reverse order, because turning off sound will stop the jukebox playback. This is my normal mode of operation when I don't really need the TomTom to give me directions. _________________ TomTom XXL IQ + TomTom GO 720 |

Drage,
A big, big thank you! That works a treat. I am (fairly) sure that it didn't work in V6, but it certainly works in V7.
I don't want to carp, but
1) It is a workaround
2) It is an oversight rather than a design feature
3) It is flaky (that is to say, it is easily disturbed by, for example, changing volume for a phone call, and then you have to go through the whole sequence again, including identifying the album and track you want to hear.)
4) It is clearly not known to TomTom support, as I have put in a formal wish-list request and have had a number of eMails from different people at TomTom, none of whom have offered this solution.
But, having said all that, it is a huge improvement and I am in your debt, Drage. _________________ Timothy Nathan

You're welcome, Timothy.
Perhaps it's unintentional that it works this way, but hopefully they won't "fix" it in future upgrades. _________________ TomTom XXL IQ + TomTom GO 720 |

They have a nasty habit of disabling "Features" that are found like this, the last really useful one was to output the Mobile Phone Audio out via the Aux socket on the x10 series, about 2 weeks later out came an update that disabled this work around (a real shame IMHO) - Mike |
