If the recall on toys made in China is anything to go by, are you surprised. _________________ Graham.

I was thinking about buying a 720, but with all of the problems everyone here seem to be having I think I'll hold off.
BTW, I know this is the TT forum, but does anyone have a recommendation for an alternative! |

What is it with these stupid units? Now trying my SECOND unit. Everything seemed to be 'better' than the first one until I tested the HANDSFREE. Arrrrggghhhhhh, this unit has the awful buzzing sound, and a crap microphone to boot. One person I called asked if someone was using a buzzsaw behind me. Oh and they couldn't hardly hear me. Note, I wasn't even moving - no road noise, no music. I give up, I don't want another one. Not Happy |

I haven't had a chance to try the 720 yet but I'm hoping to get my hands on one in the next few weeks. I don't really anticipate there being any problems with it, if my experience with the ONE XL is any indication - it worked right out of the box. We'll see. |

i thought mine was ok, until I found this thread....
then i was able to replicate all the issues listed, so its gone back.
i will wait a while to see if things improve or if the 920 makes an appearance.

I received my s2nd TTG 720 a couple of days ago from Handtec,. The bluetooth works better now, but still not clear. Instead of the person at the other end of the line hearing just a loud buzzing sound, he now gets a hiss/crackly line instead, but at least they can hear what I am saying.
Is it worth returning it for a full refund or swap for a Mio C520 instead? What do you think? I need one working by end of August... _________________ TTG 720

Hi mojo, I have had my 720 now for two weeks and luckily have not experienced many of these problems. I have had a pairing problem with my phone since first updating and on hands free it is a little quite but I believe this to be firmware problem with the phone from visiting other forums.
I got my 720 online through Dixons and I may be wrong but I have not seen the few people on her whom also ordered from dixons complaining about their unit.
So if some are having these problems and others aren’t and we all started off with the same software then I would think it is the unit rather than soft or firmware, again I may be wrong. Also there do seem to be a few units from certain stores that are playing up may be they had bad batches.
Mojo I think you should stick with the 720 send that one back and may be try somewhere ells. You may still have time to try one more unit and return that one if necessary and then get the Mio if needs be before the end of the month.
Good luck Mojo. |

Over two weeks I had two 720's both had buzzing on handsfree MotoV3 on both navcore firmware's they are both back in Comet in Birkenhead, maybe I will wait until they have there act in gear - Fuuny though My son-in-law approached TomTom last year suggesting adding overhead imagery (satellite and aerial views) now we see the same type of thing on x20’s – Still his programming worked in drive time.

My brother has had 2 as well.
He hasn't taken the 2nd back yet as he is trying to resolve it with tt support.
They told him Verizon was not supported...as if that is causing the handsfree buzz. Verizon works for me. |

People need to know if it is firmware causing the problem or if it is due to faulty units. I should think these answers would be coming soon. I myself think a bit of both. |

I've had two. Opted for refund. Now gone back to my TTGO Original. The sound quality puts the 720 to shame. Now sitting back waiting to see what the rest of the Satnav world has to offer. |

UPDATE:
My brother got his 3rd unit today and still had the buzzing.
TT support said it was because of verizon, then because of 7.010 firmware. His new unit had 7.0 and still buzzed. Why can't they just be honest with us.
He is off to get his money back and try another retailer for unit #4. |

Support staff these days are just trained monkeys that read from their computer screen what your problem is.
If computer says we have no record of that fault then you are lying and will hang in public.
If you are not happy with your purchase then return it to your retailer.
Your contract is with the retailer, and NOT Tomtom. |

That doesn't excuse bad support and I do have a MANUFACTURER warranty.
UPDATE:
Unit #4 was a success. The handsfree bluetooth is completely clear.:D
BTW, during me and my brothers fiasco, Circuity City was 0/3 and Best Buy was 4/4(we tested the demo units at best buy too).
Looks like it's definitely a hardware issue with a certain run of 720's. It's just too bad the consumer has to jump through hoops with poor TT support and take matters into their own hands. |

I have had two both with buzzing hands free, however the problem was different on each device. On the first the buzzing was constant and completly drowned out my voice. The second unit wasn't as bad, however it still wasn't usable, it only buzzed when I spoke and my voice was loud enough to be heard half the time. I have got a refund and will probably go for a One XL for the time being and maybe upgrade to a 720/920 when the quality is more settled. GPS side of things was great though (although its the only GPS I have ever used). |
