I'm going to hang on a little longer before making any decisions on whether to return for a refund or not. TT have acknowledged my 'questions'.........just waiting for an answer.

Do you select the 510/710 as the model when submitting questions? - since they haven't added the new models to the support site yet |

can't remember exactly which unit I chose to report under but the opening sentence, in caps, was:
TOMTOM GO 720 - SERIOUS WARRANTY PROBLEMS
I would hope they got the message
EDIT - just checked - logged under 710
EDIT part 2 - oh well, it's got to go back anyway as handsfree doesn't work. Noone can hear me, all they get is a buzzing. Is it unit no. 3 or do I call it quits? very poor show from TT _________________ Chris

TT's response - very poor and incomplete
If the speaker uses more power than the battery is able to deliver, then the device will turn itself off - this is a safety measure to prevent any damage. We recommend then setting the volume at less than 90% while running off it's own battery.
We also suggest to:
- Reduce brightness on display so more power can be used for the speaker
- Bluetooth is switched off if no phone is to be connected
- Check the following link from our FAQ page: www.tomtom.com/7285.
The FAQ pointed to is competely unrelated, they have failed to comment on both the variable volume option causing problems and the TT Home resetting preferences problems.
I have expressed my disappointment to themand told them I am unhappy to pay over £300 to be beta tester!! I will be heading back to PC World later on to exchange for a TT One Eur, and a refund of the difference - unless anyone has horror stories about that? _________________ Chris

I did the same yesterday and now own a TT One XL UK & Ireland instead at a saving of £135. I was not willing to risk another 720 given all of the fault posts I've read here and elsewhere.
Be sure and backup the unit before running any updates though, my SD card was immediately corrupted by TT Home Fortunately I had already copied the full contents of the card to my PC. |

That's really poor - imagine buying anything else to be told, don't switch this on as it'll break! Fantastic - they should recall the units and fix the fault. But I bet after some large returns from distributors and floods of support calls they modify the software and limit the audio output (so 90% becomes 100% if you get my drift). Queue complaints of "it's too quiet - I can't hear it". Which again would be poor as I don't think it's loud enough anyway.
[rant]Also is it just me or have Tomtom also become a little arrogant in their responses? I wasn't impressed by my support operator (too quick to blame me for the problems before i finished explaining) and replies like that above really grate.[/rant] |
