If you get warnings at seemingly strange speeds then this is why:

The maths:

30 mph = 19kph
40mph = 25kph
70mph = 43kph

In POILoader, on the screen where you select the directory where the data files can be found, it also asks 'What units should be used for distance and speed?' Make sure you set this to Feet and MPH. At present yours as Meters and KPH.

Re-upload the camera's and make sure you change the setting! It will remember this setting so you only need to do it once.

Not when I went to school.

11.9 mph = 19kph
15.6mph = 25kph
26.9mph = 43 kph

I think it's the other way round.

Lets assume you set speeds of 30units, 40units and 70 units, thinking you stting MPH as the unit , but you are actually setting KPH. If you now measure your speed in MPH, you get 18.75mph, 25mph, and 43.74 mph. Bingo!!

I'm not sure how Garmin works, but I assume from this that you need to change to MPH from KPH, and then set the speeds to 30, 40 and 70, once you are in mph mode.

ie The speed database has the values 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 in it - with POI Loader set to KPH it will translate those values as if they were kph speeds, hence the very wrong mph warnings.

It certainly gave me a chuckle! I'm sure they'll figure it out - after all, it's not exactly rocket science is it! We all know that 60mph = 100 kph - don't we? Rolling Eyes (too many years of living in a country which changed to metric measurement when I was just learning to drive, and totally screwing up my brain!)

You'd think so, but have you seen how many posts there are complaining that the database doesn't work, because of this problem?

Right, that explains the error.

Not all of us like to play with the garmins we just want to use them with as little hassle as possible.

Just remember that if you download and install the new European camera databases, you will need to set POILoader to kmh settings, other wise in an 80mph limit (130kmh) you won't get a warning unless you are doing close to 130mph!!

This means that you won't be able to load the European and UK databases at the same time, as they are not compatible with the same setting in POILoader.

If you search the forums there are a number of suggestions for having both mph and kph alerts at the same time - basically you either change the values in one set of files to the other units, or you use the multiple POI Loader upload tricks (not available on all units).
